He was 2-5 last year.

He was 5-7 at Colorado in 2019.

This year has been good so far, but he hasn't played Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State yet and isn't going to play Iowa.

There's no argument for Mel Tucker.

His name just sounds like a country singer. Sorry, I know that's not the way to judge the man, but it is what it is

I wouldn't love the hire, but I wouldn't hate it either. Tucker had the reputation of being the best recruiter in the SEC when he coached at Bama. Would be nice to have a great recruiter as HC

Yeah he seems to be doing a great job this year. I just think LSU is a better job than hiring a guy who will have his first winning season this year. He was also kinda meh in terms of his defenses for a good bit of his nfl tenure.

Aranda has had a similar coaching career in college but we’re familiar with him and he just seems to have it. I think he’s going to be an extremely successful coach for someone big in the future. Seems very detail oriented. Tucker could be the same. I’m just not nearly as familiar with his college coaching style.

I guess I just really hope it’s Aranda. I think he has a VERY high ceiling and he’s the polar opposite of the last two guys we have had.

He just doesn’t have any kind of track record to judge him by.

Short term as College DC

I try Not to judge a coach by year 1 at a school and that’s 2/3 of the seasons he’s coached.

Hes 7-0 this year and coming and still has to play OSU, PSU and Michigan. Purdue is also ranked.

If he goes 3-1 it would be hard to say he isn’t an interning prospect but it’s just a small sample size

He hasn’t been coaching long enough to know whether or not he’s a good coach.

All I will say is Willie Taggart was an Affirmative Action hire.

We all agree that we want LSU to hire the best possible candidate, but it seems that Tate wants to hire the best possible black candidate, and therein lies the problem. If the best possible candidate is black, then so be it, but don't restrict the hiring pool to just black coaches.

Honestly he seems like a weird guy just from watching his video on the MSU website. Bird watching, neutral thinking, wearing a mask with a face shield while outside, etc…

Don’t know much about him but I really like his intensity and he’d probably recruit the state really well.

7-0 is great, but not a single team he’s played has a winning record.

My biggest issue with Mel Tucker is that it feels like hiring a black dude because he's a black dude. There are more qualified candidates than him.

Now, if they offer the job to the more qualified candidates and he passes...then so be it, but the idea that "He's the guy" because of his race tells me everything I need to know about the people in charge.

Why does this question keep getting asked? What the hell has he done to warrant an LSU job? Why would you not just go Aranda instead if you're interested in Tucker? What Saban tree guys turned into homeruns except Smart?

He’s 14-12 as a Head Coach and this is his first year ever with a winning record. His offense also stinks.

I don’t want the guy myself. But many people want Napier because he a Saban guy but doesn’t want Tucker when he took Colorado out of the gutter and has a unbeaten top 10 team as we speak. It’s a little baffling to me
