Hypothetically how would that work if it was Petersen? Woodward agreed to let O finish out the season so bringing in Petersen now might turn this circus on its head. However if Petersen stayed put for now he would have time to reach out and set up his coaching staff so the second after the season ended he could be announced and hit the ground running for early signing day.
I said in the "make your call now" thread I thought Petersen... I still think he's the 1st target.

Probably because after living basically all of his life in the NW he is not interested in moving down here.
He heard about the swamp arse 9 months out of the year.

After Kiffin, Petersen is my second choice.

It would’ve been leaked out already if he was the next coach, no point in waiting. It’s going to be a guy that’s still coaching right now.

What makes Peterson a slam dunk?
What makes you unable to spell, even when the OP does it correctly one post above yours?

I think the talk died out because people assume if it was Petersen there would be no reason not to announce it.

Optics would be the only reason not to announce it now. I would imagine that a lot of people, including powerful people, still love O so with what Woodward said he may not want to upset the wrong people. Besides as long as early signing day is not effected what harm is there in waiting to officially name Petersen the new head coach until the season is over? Now I don’t think it will be Petersen, but I would be happy if it was, and I would imagine it would have leaked out by now if it was Petersen. But let’s not underestimate Woodward and just see what happens.

He's almost 60 and would rather live somewhere in the US that isn't shite.

He doesn’t want to coach anymore.

It's Friday and we have exhausted all of the potential fantasy of him. We've moved onto Riley with a helping of Kiffin with Jimbo for the dessert. It's immensely entertaining

Maybe Petersen is ready for something new and exciting. A challenge, even.
He couldn't step up to the challenge that was the pac 12.
Look at his record. Oregon had 3 bad seasons because of Helfrich then the Willie situation then a 3rd new coach in 3 years.
Those 3 years are his only successful years in the Pac. His other 3 he wasn't anywhere near in contention for the Pac 12 north much less a playoff contender.
Cristobal immediately out recruited him and then he was done.
I always like CP but he couldn't handle the pressure cooker that is Baton Rouge.
