I'm friends with a couple of ND alums. They seem pretty realistic about the chances that they will ever return to the level that they once were. However, they would probably attribute the change in expectations to the rest of the counter catching up and the academic standards, and would downplay the decision to stay out of conference and to have their own TV deal (which I think is a major factor).

People in NJ are getting sick of Rutgers NEVER EVER winning the Big East. Could the conference be any easier for the taking than this year? If Rutgers beat a middle of the road UConn team, they would have at least tied for the conference. and I know 2 dropped passes and a missed Field Goal bla bla.
Plus play a real out of conference game

I think Dooley may be out after next season If he doesn't get stuff straight. Going (5-7)overall and(1-7) in the SEC isn't gonna cut it in his third season .

his offense is not a great fit there.
ND's offense is good, all they're missing is a QB who can cut down on the mistakes. they kind of remind me of the Chargers in the NFL. ton of talent, just can't seem to get it done.

agreed - I like Chiz, but if his saftey net in Roof and Malzhan will be gone - another season like this and he will be on the hot seat.

they have to be sick of losing the games that really count with their 1960's army offense.
Having such a distinct offensive identity and a roster full personnel designed to run that offense makes him less fireable than the average coach.
It would make transitioning away very painful, IMO.

There are already rumors that A&M is putting out feelers to some coaching candidates and if any of them show interest, he might be gone before next season.
this practice of "we will keep you if something better does not show up" is just messed up.

If Chiz is on the hot seat next year then Auburn is a joke

Alot of people are saying that we've undermined Sherman so much it would hurt us more to keep him than fire him at this point. If we keep him he just becomes deadweight that gets tossed out at the end of next year regardless of win/loss. Kind of the same situation we were in before joining the SEC.

maryland's financial situation might save edsall.
Can't remember what show I was listening too earlier this week, but a Maryland sports writer was talking about what a terrible fit Edsall is at Maryland and that the Under Armor founder (Maryland grad) was going to put up 4 million dollars this year for a buyout. So that job might be open in a few weeks if that is true.

whats ugas schedule next year? do they get any of the big 3 from west?
i still think they are 2nd best in the east. not to mention id expect uf and auburn to be a lil better next year if they have a qb that emerges.

ND has been the poorest run program out there in the last 20 years. If they ever hire a great coach and pay top dollar, they will be back in a hurry. It is a tough job but its one of the few places where you can land elite recruits from anywhere in the country. That distinguishes it from other midwest powers. A top 30 coach won't cut it there. They would need a top 5 coach (like Holtz was in his prime in the late 80s and 90s). I think Kelly needs to win 8 games next year. He is a good coach but he seems overwhelmed by the pressure of that job. Also his offense is not a great fit there.
I disagree. You talk to highschool kids in the cities, they don't dream about playing for ND like people did 20 years ago. Not to mention most of them aren't even eligible to begin with.
They have fallen from grace, i don't think they will ever be back till they join a freaking conference. Even then it will be after the SEC starts to fade.

ND's has some decent young talent at QB...if they can get decent QB play without all of the silly turnovers they had this year, they will be competitive.
they had multiple turnovers inside the 5 yard line in their first two losses.
Our Lady could be 11-1 without much difference in their play.
The alumni all know that. Kelly's not on hot seat.
Dooley is. When you consider that they fired a coach who had won the national championship and recently won the SEC east...

Chizik will be there if next year Auburn plays like they did this year, IMO.
What? Nobody expected them to do any better than 7-5 this year. Another mediocre season and his seat may be a bit warm going into '13, but isn't this thread about possible '12 casualties? That said, no way Richt should be on this list. Not only did they bounce back and have a good season, but they are primed to be really good next year too.

Fisher at FSU. He won't get fired next year but if they have another season like this year with the expectations they'll have, he'll be on the hot seat going into 2013.

Bob Stoops. Horrible year given the expectations. Awful loss to Texas Tech...inexcusable actually.
Every year since 2000 (when OU won the NC) they have disappointed with one or two head scratching losses a year. People in Norman are slowly starting to get fed up.
