I don't see how this is a good move for him financially. 4M in Starkville is about 7M in Miami, and they aren't going to offer that.
Wait what?
Florida has no income tax. Mississippi does.

Word is he wants to win championships and he is realizing its a lot harder than he ever imagined at State and he has peaked. Next year will be a rebuilding year without Dak.

A 32 year OC would get eaten alive in the SEC West. Jeeze you dont think we are an attractive enough of a job to get a Head coach?
Lots of big programs like OU and UGA have hired top coordinators as their head coach.
And you aren't in the same stratosphere as OU or UGA.

Cost of living. You really believe the $1.5 million dollar house Dan lives in up in Starkville would appraise for the same in Miami?

You are referring to coaches both hired in the 90's different day and age in the world of college football.

I mean maybe not him necessarily, I just like younger minds anyway and think State would be a good spot for one.
And yeah I'm sure you could get a HC but it might be one with less upside than the type of coordinator I'm talking about.

I imagine Todd Monken will be a prime candidate. Would Richt rather stay in the SEC than go somewhere like Maryland?
I've always been a big Pat Narduzzi fan but he's a Big Ten guy

You could build another entire town in Starkville for under 1.5 million

So a Mississippi State program who has won 50 games over the past 6 years isn't good enough to attract anybody for $million plus
OK I get it.

I'm sure he could work out a nice house in Coral Gables into his contract
Not all of Miami is South Beach.
Mississippi taxes him an additional 5% on his income. So 4 million at 5% is 200k a year in just state income tax. I’m sure that’d cover a mortgage

I didn't say that at all...

Why not? I know he probably has some more to prove but his offenses are great and USM was a trash fire when he took over.
I'm still not sold at all Mullen would leave

Ruffin McNeill from east carolina....

And god forbid someone thinking Miami is an exponentially better place to live than Starkville, Mississippi.

Florida doesn't have a state income tax; Mullen will still have to pay federal income taxes.

Great offensive coach but completely different offense that the personnel we have. We have spread running QBs not the drop back types he prefers.

I know. Did I say anything about that? What are you talking about?
ETA:
Unless you thought I was saying the federal income tax for an NCAA coach is 5%

Mark Richt? He's too good to not get scooped up this year.
Of course if the LSU OC job comes open, thats a big upgrade over MSU HC.

Mullen has 2 young children and Miami isn't exactly a great place to raise kids.
