Actually, that's a pretty insightful evaluation. I hadn't thought about him.

Others are still coaching, he was fired, no reason for the delay in naming him.

Les Miles should just take it on as a secondary duty. God knows he can slow down just about any offense and QB.

It's a guess like everyone else has.

Whoever it is I would delay until Monday to maximize exposure. If you announce it Monday afternoon it will get exposure on a national stage. It will be on the ticker scrolling through the entire game "LSU hires "X" as new Defensive Coordinator." Every potential recruit in the country will see the name of three schools during the game: Oregon, OSU, and LSU in the ticker.

Haley. And I like it, for one thing, because it puts a black guy in a high visibility position in the program, and might help us recruit an even bigger share of the talented black athletes around the Deep South.

Not to mention hiring LeBeau as DC will almost overshadow the game.

I'm changing my prediction to.......John Chavis.

In a Billy Donovan like move, he tells A&M to Go frick Themselves and returns to LSU.

dammit, man. i was literally reading through this thread so that i could post this if it hadn't already been posted.

Phil Robertson, the old QB/duckman knows how to stop an offense. Les knows he has to hit a grand slam with this hire PR wise too. It's a lock boys.

That guy is one of the top DC's in the NFL. Why would he consider going to any college program? It would be great, but I would be shocked.

And that is exactly how Hannagriff described the name he heard. He said it would shock the college football world. I agree, why would he come here, but he fits the "hints" that I have heard.

he was seemingly a candidate for the DC job in '08 after Pelini left, so hopefully he and Miles have stayed in touch since.

- he's 40, and maybe he'd rather be someone like patterson or saban or meyer than belichik. he came up under andy reid, and maybe he doesnt want to have a family life as fricked up as reids. no one is gonna hand an NFL assistant a top 10 college team, but LSU would be ideal for him. Miles has been here a decade now, McDermott could be the DC and then take over when Miles is done.

- obviously its uncommon to go from the NFL for the same job in college, but... harbaugh
