Just a few years ago Mack was riding high, reeling in top classes every year, locking down the state of Tx and dominating every other team in his conference.

Behind the scenes he was keeping the regents happy and being a true ambassador to the university for their football program.

One coach likely to be fairly easy to get without the huge buyout or dancing around this or that agent will be Jimbo Fisher and Texas should consider him regardless of the BCS NCG's outcome.

Reasons:

1. Charisma - Jimbo has that syrupy sweet southern hospitality type charisma that would really work in the Austin culture amongst the regents and businessmen boosters, clubs etc he would have to meet and deal with.

2. Recruiting - Jimbo's whole career as a HC he has been an above-average to great recruiter even reeling in at least 1 (that I can remember) #1 class and has shown the ability to make great evals on kids to fit the schemes he wants to run.

3. Marketable - With the new Texas coach being directly thrust into the spotlight on the LHN, they need a coach with not only experience but also some marketability. With his history and background, he would do rather well in that venue I believe, he's again charismatic and loves the game of football.

4. The right experience with regards to staff and playing scheme - He has experience bringing in a staff full of people who will fully buy into his system or what he's selling and then creates that M.O. amongst the team and his staff helps him bring in the right kids that will do it the way he wants. That experience he already had dodging live bullets doing this at FSU is invaluable. His greatest recruiting job was selling Jameis Winston not at being just a QB but to be his leader for 2-3 years 1st and QB 2nd.

5. Undervalued - I remember just a couple years ago at the tail end of Bowden's recruited players (or lack of depth at a couple positions because BB got kinda lazy) when the team struggled to make it to .500 and FSU came very close to firing Jimbo...fast forward 2 years later and he is leading the #1 team with the Heisman QB at the helm into the BCS NCG.

6. Longevity - Maybe the most important aspect...he is only 48 and I believe as close to becoming the next Nick Saban (look at all my points above) in terms of coaching and possibly laying out and building a dynasty at a great football school like Texas. He can easily coach 12 - 15 more years and there would be no desire from him (as much as he loves coaching) to retire.

All 6 of these points are something the next coach at Texas will need to encompass and I believe Jimbo is the only one who can, not even Saban

What do you guys think?

Agreed.. He doesn't attempt 57 yard FG's with no athletes to prevent a return... Good call

Is this a post to convince yourself that Saban won't be the next coach?

First of all, let me say that I agree with everything that you said. All six of the reasons you gave are correct. However, Jimbo Fisher will not be the next head coach at Texas, and I'll give you the reasons why. He has been the head coach at Florida St. for just four years and has done a pretty damn good job since he started. His record so far is 44-10. This year they went undefeated (even though they didn't really play anybody worth anything) and are going to the NC. You're point about recruiting is valid, as Jimbo consistently brings in top 10 classes each year. There is something that you and some people tend to forget and that is that Jimbo coaches at Florida St. Every year it seems like the top recruits in the nation come from the same four states, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and California. So anything he would want in Texas he can easily get in Florida. It also helps that he has the Heisman trophy winner. I think that Florida St. has every capability to become a powerhouse school. The only problem with FSU is they don't play in the SEC and since in the last decade we have pretty much seen the NC be the SEC champion vs whoever is the next best team in the country. However, that will all be out of the question from now on as the playoff system kicks off next year. As far as longevity goes, are you serious? The man he replaced coached at FSU for 34 years. That pretty much defines longevity. Florida St. won't let Jimbo get away. Sure they don't have the money that UT does, but that won't matter. Jimbo stays. Besides, you are just trying to convince yourself that Saban won't go.

My prediction: Saban to UT Jan. 3

Ok on longevity you can say that all you want too

Bobby Bowden STARTED the program at FSU....let that sink in

I know a couple people in Bham who are good friends with the Fishers and he would leave Tallahassee for a better job offer in a heartbeat, he's still undervalued and he knows it, doesn't particularly like the AD

Saban isn't going anywhere y'all are so funny

This is the Saban to Bama scenario all over again. Bama was quiet and didn't seem too motivated to hire a coach until the NFL season was over-then all of a sudden, news broke and Saban was landing. The deal was already done. Texas probably already has the deal done with Jimbo-they don't seem to be in a hurry either but after the NC game...the longer this goes on, the more likely Jimbo or some other big name will end up in Austin!!

Agreed and because of all reasons I listed above I think Jimbo is the perfect fit for a Texas organization that doesn't need a twilight coach about to retire like Saban (going through that now, not gonna sign on for it again)

As much as any other fanbase on here wants to believe that Saban is leaving, they already tried to target him and were not successful

Bama is in the damn Sugar Bowl I'm sure Saban would feel the need to stick around to coach that game if he really were about to uproot to Austin

I'm betting that Texas already has Sexton waiting to throw out that 10mil/yr deal at Jimbo
