only Saban and Gruden would fit that bill, and neither are legitimate possibilities.

LSU should definitely be able to land someone with head coaching experience that has a better winning % than 57%, 50% in conference, and finishing no better than tied for 3rd in their division over the course of 4 years.

LSU lucked out with Les Miles and he was an absolutely horrible hire given the condition that Saban left the program. Hiring someone with the credentials Les had at OSU would make me go mad.

see my post above. It wouldn't take much to hire a coach at a lesser BCS conference school who had a more impressive resume than Les Miles.

Pretty much agree, it's definitely top 10, possibly top 5.

Definitely disagree, especially with the timing.

it doesn't work that way. most coaches are under contract and most of the good ones have large buyouts. there are all kind of other circumstances that prevent any school from getting who they want. timing is the biggest single issue for LSU. example, in 2006 we could have fired miles and got saban back. he was leaving miami and wanted to be back at lsu. today, he's entrenced at bama and he's not available. if miles leaves, we could end up screwed for 4 or 5 years and that would kill the momentum we have going right now.

we will be incredibly lucky if we find someone who matches the record Les accumulated while here. To say that Les was a horrible hire is just ridiculous.

Miles was one of the first names mentioned as a possibility.

And we will not likely hire someone who will have the same success that Miles has had here. You can piss and moan about him all you want, but who else has maintained his level of success for as long?

You people need to wipe your arse with the "luck" theory. The man is a winner.

emphasis on "could" have. We would have had to fire Miles the day after he won BCS.

It is highly unlikely that any coach that comes after Les will have the same or better record than he has had. But, that's not what I said. I said that it wouldn't be hard to find someone with a more impressive resume than before he came to LSU. Look at this resume and tell me we can't do better:

quote:

Year Team Overall Conference Standing Bowl/Playoffs Coaches# AP°
Oklahoma State Cowboys (Big 12 Conference) (2001–2004)
2001 Oklahoma State 4–7 2–6 5th (South)
2002 Oklahoma State 8–5 5–3 4th (South) W Houston
2003 Oklahoma State 9–4 5–3 3rd (South) L Cotton
2004 Oklahoma State 7–5 4–4 5th (South) L Alamo
Oklahoma State: 28–21 16–16

Les Miles was a garbage hire by a garbage AD who was trying to get someone cheap that he could control, unlike Saban.

Nice, rebuttal. Les has turned out to be a fantastic coach at LSU. It will take a lot for him to not go down as the greatest ever. But, he should have never been hired.

I think it is likely that we will hire a coach with a better resume than Les had at OSU. But, it will be very difficult for that new coach to match what Les has done here at LSU.
