Defense was his plague

We put up 63 on Riley. I’ve never seen a supposedly elite team play worse on defense.

I agree, wasn’t one of their LB a Butkus finalist that year?

Kelley would be such a hugely underwhelming hire, but he'd be the best coach we would have had since Saban.

Kelly is 60 and Riley is 38. How do young inner city kids relate to somebody like Kelly or Bill O’Brien. Don’t tell me Saban does it because neither one of them can be mentioned in the same conversation as Saban.

Riley never killed anyone

It’s funny you got more downvotes than upvotes on this. It is a fact he was instrumental in killing a kid.

Riley can run faster...like he did when the SEC came calling.

And yet he’s out recruiting Oklahoma this year? He rebuilt ND via recruiting. That’s not it at all

No people wanted a younger coach, who could possibly be here for 20 years..is he a good Coach? Of coarse, most just preferred a younger guy…

Notre Dame recruiting class was ranked higher than OU's last season and is currently, again, ranked higher than OU based upon commitments.

Yeah ND was higher because ND had 11 more recruits. Nice to leave out that little detail. And even the Oklahoma was still ranked closely to ND that year. Also ND this year has 23 commits compared to Oklahomas 14 now. Another detail you’ll leave out I’m sure. How about the 2020 class where Kelly brought in the 18th ranked class

You make good points. But I also think LSU is a different recruiting ground than ND and that he’d do well here.

I just think if we took Brian Kelly and ND pulled Urban Meyer, would Meyer still have the same issues getting star talent to ND year in and year out? I feel like that’s not going to happen. The academic restriction excuse is overblown
