It's not really that risky, this years team is'nt competing on a high level and next years team was going to be rebuild year anyways. It's more prudent to make a bold move and head in a new direction immediately than have a lame duck coach that is forced to major staff changes for 2nd year in a row due to incompetence in year 4 of his tenure.

Sumrall is not picking Kentucky over LSU if he’s LSU’s guy. I don’t care that he played there, no one would make that choice

I'd be down with Pete Golding.

I think a program like LSU will contact the agents of every good to great HC in the country and feel them out.DONT think they won’t.All they have to do is contact 3or4 of the top agents ,those are the guys who represent all the big boys.Lanning, Smart,Day,Kiffen will tell them no,so go from there.I like Golesh,Key, Sumral three hard nosed coaches with energy and something to prove. They remind me of a young Saban.

If you can’t get Lanning or Kiffin, you go after Key, Drinkwitz or Sumrall.
I know how some would feel about Sumrall but he’s young, hungry and seems to be able to navigate this NiL landscape well.

Same here.
And the reality of it is, one of them will likely be the "damn, if only we had hired him then" and just as likely the other two will be ehhhhh. And anyone who tells you they are 100% sure which of three will be the Kirby Smart of that group, are lying.

Kelly was 19-10 in conference and getting worse every year. That’s why he was fired.

I still like what Pate said on his show last night about making Freeman tell you “no”. I’d prefer we went after Lanning first though.

top 5 college job
Used to be. ESPN money doesn't go that far anymore. Everyone caught up. This is a top 10-15 college job, and that's mostly because of the delusional fanbase.
