Even with their amazing run of top ranked recruiting classes, they haven't matched that stretch of drafted players. That is why I question if Jimbo will ever be able to repeat his early success.

I'm not understanding the concern here. You're saying that Jimbo stockpiled and developed talent in an unprecedented way for 3 years, but if he doesn't replicate that run, he might not be in a position to contend for championships?
It's been established that one of those record draft classes was BEFORE he won the national championship.

His 2012 team was possibly the most loaded of the three. 11 draft picks including a 1st round QB with 7 more drafted the following year. If anything that team underachieved, which I don't view as a positive. It took a superstar QB along with a LOADED roster to win it all the following season.

Winning a national title is hard and takes some luck. Saban has had one undefeated season. Urban has never had an undefeated national champion. shite, Bobby Bowden finished ranked in the top 4 for 14 consecutive seasons, but won 2 national titles. All of them always had loaded rosters.
If you don't think Jimbo would be a good hire, that's fine. But there are no realistic candidates that can touch his resume in any objective way.

They had a great season in 2012, I have doubts Jimbo will ever have the amount of talent that he had in 2012-2014 again. I want a coach that can beat teams with equal or slightly better talent, Jimbo hasn't had to do that. It is a testament to his recruiting, but it does concern me. I would be excited to see him hired, but I don't believe he is the slam dunk that others think he is.

I do wonder how good he is without an all world QB.
You see that fairly often with coaches. Vince Dooley wasn't a great coach without Hershel Walker for example.
