Bama is not Michigan. Bama fans expect National Championships every year in an environment and league that makes it nearly impossible to do so. Michigan has a recruiting advantage and a Top heavy conference. They have a much better opportunity to make the NC each year.

He used Bama to get a raise at WV, nothing more.

I think Rich is holding WV's feet to the fire to try to get them to live up to thier commitment to improve facilities, etc. He's just reminding them that he has other options. What is RR's salary? Doesn't he make a good bit more than UM would be willing to pay?

Michigan Rumors

On December 14, 2007 it was reported by the Sporting News that Rodriguez met with University of Michigan officials in Toledo, Ohio to discuss Michigan's vacant coaching position. The report implies that Michigan Athletic Director Bill Martin, and President Mary Sue Coleman were present during the negotiations. The Detroit Free Press confirmed the report citing two anonymous sources. The Free Press also reported negotiations were taking place in Toledo, Ohio.

Michigan fans are happy with Rose Bowl appearances and beating Ohio State.

Many Alabama fans used to be obsessed with winning national championships. OK, some still are. But if you asked most of them, they would be satisfied, after all the program has been through, with winning the SEC and beating Auburn.

I know it sounds weird. But, most of the Bama fans that I personally talk with are Bama grads, and they would be happy as clams to go to Atlanta and beat Auburn at this point. The Finebaum callers are the national championship or bust crowd.

Would Rodriguez's offense work with the personnel at Michigan? I don't think they have any White's or Slaton's.

I just got home, and didnt realize that this had happened. This could be a huge development, leading to a lot of changes. Should be something else to watch in our awesome world of college football!

Heck......the Bamers would be happy to go to a bowl other than the Indy Bowl! Ha!

Rodriguez is not limited to any particular player. His spread offenses have worked regardless of personnel. Recall that he was Bowden's OC at Tulane when they went undefeated with Shaun King. He takes a high mobility QB and develops them into the system. He is a very good coach.

His only drawback is that pro-style players don't want to train in a total spread offense. But he wins with what he gets. He also doesn't leave after one year. He would be a good hire for anybody.

The developments are that UM can't keep its mouth shut and can't resist leaking this kind of stuff to the press, which jumps all over it and causes Michigan fans to go crazy, all creating a media and fan firestorm which leads to premature assumptions and declarations and reporters camping out, leading to a likely decision that Michigan is dysfunctional and more trouble than it is worth.

Sound familiar?

Whomever leaked the news caused Rich and his wife with the big hair to be met at the Morgantown airport on their return from Toledo by a gaggle of press.

I hope that doesn't derail the deal as I want practice to begin on Monday with ZERO thoughts of "Miles could still go to Michigan" press.

If there wasn't a leak this would have been over awhile ago.
