We need an OC that can carry out Miles' offensive vision...

Miles is a run up the middle guy, I formation guy.
That is if we replace one spread offense guy Crowton, with another spread offense, spread option offense, pass first/air raid guy, there will be no difference at all. The same conflicts will arise.
Actually Miles had problems with Jimbo, who was also a run up the middle guy, but had huge issues with Mike Gundy who is much more of a pass guy at Oklahoma State, post Les.
We need Todd Monken, because he knows Les and whats his vision.
Like it or not but since we have signed Les for the next 7 years, LSU offense will be mostly run up the middle offense. We need a co-ordinator.
The Mike Leach's, Gus Malzahn's, Rich Rodriguez's, Urban Meyer's of the world will not be a good fit under Les.

Not necessarily. LSU always has great skill players. RBs and WRs. We have had great players on defense. With a good DC, the defense should be great. With RBs, WRs that Louisiana churns out, the challenge is recruiting a decent O-Line and an average QB.
Its better than going for a spread offense. If you have a QB like Tebow, Cam Newton, or Vince Young you can run the spread offense with perfection. But running it year in year out is difficult. You need specific personnel for the spread.

We had one of those already. His name was Gary Crowton circa 2007. Hester wore out opposing defenses running up the middle.

Is that what he ran at Okie State? I thought those teams scored a lot of points? If had been dealing with the QB deck we had the past 3 years, I would have been handing the ball off a lot too.

Les is going pro and that is what we need. The reason all NFL teams use run and pass packages is because it is the way to beat the fast and great defenses. No air raid or spread options in the pros or LSU for 7 years.

The main thing that keeps it out of the pros, and also what is the main "con" for everyone running the spread, is your QB gets hit too much.
Its rare that you are going to find a QB as big and tough as Newton or Tebow. Spread QB's take more hits and thus get hurt more than pro style QB's. The pro's don't want to expose their franchise QB's to that sort of risk, so if they do run the spread they do it with RB's or WR's
It's hard enough to get ONE good QB on your team in CFB, much less having a quality backup to run your spread, and make no doubt about it, the spread is very QB dependant.

I don't know why Leach is discussed so much as if that coaching dynamic with him as an OC would be a good thing for any school of our caliber. The last thing we should want is a guy that could possibly fragment the staff with this hire. Leach is a great offensive mind but polarizing and not a guy that would be a good OC IMO. He says what he wants as a head coach and a commentator and that's fine, but you can't do that as a coordinator and I'm not sure Leach has the maturity to bite his tongue.
