Lane holds all the cards as of this moment.
If Ole Miss suspends him he still is getting paid.
If they fire him he is still getting paid.
IF LSU hires him he is still get his money
He doesn't.have to make a decision anything until someone forces him makes him decide.

He wants his cake and wants to eat it to!

It would be extraordinarily easy to find grounds to fire Lane for cause (or at least threaten it), regardless of whether it would hold up, and allow him to either litigate it or simply step away after the egg bowl.
I personally think Ole Miss would blink in that fight, but its a battle they coudl win if they really want to force his hand.
I still don't get why they would. Give yourself another month or two to convince him to stay and frick over LSU in the meantime.

The only one that will is OM.
Verge is on record saying he would wait until January if necessary to get the right coach.

Why can’t he have his cake and eat it too?

What's the point of having a cake if you don't eat it?

Why would OM even consider this as an option?

Because it could backfire and screw them over if he doesn’t

he's not going anywhere. this has all been an elaborate troll, and attempt to get himself his last big contract. his problems will be that nobody will trust him or Sexton anymore (for allegedly negotiating in bad faith), and Kiffin will have burnt bridges at Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Florida. He's pretty much stuck in Oxford forever. So, I hope he REALLY likes it. OM doesn't have deep enough pockets to sustain what they've promised him for the long term. Sure, they'll ride the enthusiasm and make it happen for a few years, but what they've promised isn't sustainable long term at OM. They'll be expecting playoff appearances every year, and will be ready to string him up by his toes if he doesn't produce them. After making him the highest paid HC in the country. And that gift of a schedule the last two years is about to flip for the foreseeable future. Headwinds are on the horizon.
