IU, Cincy, Louisville, Purdue. They can differentiate from them by going pro-style and tap into a recruiting base with little competition from other SEC schools. Especially for QBs, TEs, FBs, OLs.

Yep. This was posted in another thread of getting out of playing WKU and Louisville, and playing teams like Indiana/Purdue, NWestern, Southern Miss, North Carolina/Duke to get exposure in non SEC areas to aid in recruiting.
If we try to recruit the same areas as all the other SEC schools we will never make any progress.

I know he's not a flashy choice, but I really like Frank Solich and think he'd be a solid hire for UK. I'd also look at Ralph Friedgen, Maryland was stupid for letting him go. Also really impressed with what Kevin Wilson has done at Indiana.

Head coaches (employed and unemployed) have already been listed for possible choice, but I'll throw out some current coordinators/assistant coaches who I think would do well & can recruit well & (which is critical for UK):

Jay Norvell
Shane Beamer
Lorenzo Ward

What about Randy Shannon? He wasn't that bad of a HC, and has serious recruiting contacts in South Florida

Solich would be OK, but I think he's in his late 60's, so I'm not sure he would want a rebuilding effort.
I like what Wilson is doing at Indiana, he's a solid coach.

True, the age thing is what hurts his chances. Still though, he seems younger than what he appears and energetic, so who knows?

Wilson though....to make Indiana competitive in only his 2nd year, that's pretty damn impressive. I know the Big10 is down this year, but we're talking Indiana here, not exactly known for their football prowess.

I hope UK hires a good one and turns things around. I like your fans and the school doesn't seem too bad, so here's to a good coaching search

Good for an assitant or coordinator position, lousy HC. Can recruit with the best of them, but can't build/maintain a program at all.

This is an example of the positive attitude the CCB brings to everyone on this board.

I like Sumlin and A&M as well, solid coach and solid program. Overtaking the state of Texas quite quickly.

Perhaps you can hire his brother to run the defense...

Defense is like 80% talent and 20% coaching. Therefore being a good defense means having good talent, and a "defensive coach" is basically a guy who can get 4 star DLine players to come to your school.

Because even the greatest recruiter in the country can't get Bama, UF, or LSU-level talent to go to UK (given the lack of emphasis on the sport), you should want a gimmicky offensive coach like was said.

A team with poor recruiting prospects hoping for a SEC-level defense is like a midget hoping to one day ride the roller-coaster. Why set yourself up for disappointment when offensive guys like Bobby have shown you can win that way in recruiting wastelands?

Mike Leach would have been perfect for this job.

No, he would not. Offense yes, defense no. Defense wins in the SEC.

Mike Leach is batshit crazy. I don't know if that would be a great fit. I doubt it.

I wanted him until I saw that he's losing his shite at Washington State. Having all kinds of player issues right now. Do not want.

Dykes is the next best thing IMO.
