we didnt hire a huge name after Saban, why should this be any different?

LSU has never hired a huge name in Football, Baseball or Basketball. Think about it.
Who would be the biggest name at each sport?

Alot of people just feel more comfortable with a proven coach....I guess it's about being reputable.

Saban was well known in football circles and in the Big 10. He had a great resume. We also weren't one of the top programs at the time.
Now we are and can afford to get the best.

It is selfish of me But I hope we do hire a big name. Even if its not the best thing for LSU. Get a big fancy name that makes people happy and when a loss comes people will be ok with it.
I am worn out with the Miles stuff. I am worn out that people keep moving the goal post on him, I am tired of that people can't let their disatisifaction go after three years, I am tired of the petty slams. I am tired of their call on talk radio still talking about the Frackin Auburn game from last year. I am tired of their insecurity. I guess I am tired of it because it is taking away from the game and my enjoyment of it
If LEs goes I do not want to go through that nonsense for 3 more years.
LEts pay Tuberville and SPurrier whatever they want and when we lose some game the fans base can handle it and we win games the fan base will enjoy it without putting the infamous "but" around it.
I am worn out. NEGA TIGERS win. I admit it. I am worn out. COngrats.

I disagree with the first post. Nick Saban was a pretty big name that came out of nowhere. I don't know anyone who had him on their top ten of "available" coaches. I never heard his name from Ott/Hanagriff/Detillier/Songy or even MFP (though MFP did mention something about Bum Philips after a 20 minute rambling about the Astros' number 5 pitcher
). I was truly surprised and expecting another mediocre Dinardo/Sullivan/Hallman type. Saban was a huge name.

YEah Saban was a up and coming Coach. But we need a big name now to keep up with the JOnes. We need a Steve Spurrier that can charm the fan base on his radio show if we lose to Vanderbilt and all the tiger nation can go well wait till next week. We need a Nick Saban that can act smarter than us look at us with us that look and we are embarrased to even question him.
Hire big. THe bigger the name the better

Saban was a huge name with a huge resume that no one knew was available

And man, that was a great hire.
His salary then was big, but it really wasn't that much.

Skip Holtz?= dogshit to the tenth power

Yup, Skip's turned ECU back into a winner. He was HC at UConn for a few years when they were 1AA and got them in the playoffs for the 1st time. Also his dad's OC at ND for a few of their good yrs (scored a lotta pts and actually won their bowl games) and then at SC.

reading between the lines, i think bayourant's comments are sacastically true..and...both MILES and SABAN were well known among other coaches, just not our fan base down here ... me included..

The revisionist history is incredible around here. Saban was NOT a big name, did NOT have a great resume, and was a mid-major gamble like every other coach we have hired.
He went to Toledo for 1 year, and turned a 7-5 team to a 9-2 team. Off to the Browns, and then back to college at MSU. In the 3 previous years, MSU went a combined 16-18. In his first 3 years, he went a combined 19-16-1. He did go to 3 bowl games but lost all 3 by 15+. If he doesn't catch fire and go 9-2 in 1999, he's rumored to be fired and never gets here. 99 was made even better because he beat ND, OSU, Michigan and Penn State in the same year.

Saban was not really a "huge" name when we hired him. He became a huge name after his LSU team won the NC.

don't need a big name. get an up and coming coach who has good organizational skills, good track record, reviews and will explode on a larger stage.
someone like Boise State's coach.

He wasn't a big name and I remember people in BR wanting him fired after the 02 Cotton Bowl meltdown.
