I believe he will be the next great college coach. Was he untouchable. I would think lsu would have more stroke then washington, or am i wrong. He seems to be very saban-esque in his coaching style. He would have been one of my few options to replace Miles. Anyone have any idea if he was ever seriously considered.

He is a good coach, but I don't think he wants the pressure.

I think his lack of presence in this region hurt him as an option

He is a mountain/west coast guy and has always been clear about that. No one East of the MS even wastes their time anymore. Wittingham is about the same. He evidently likes the slightly lower profile and pressure of Utah, and is set there for the long haul now.

I don't think he was ever seriously considered, and there are plenty of reasons why. I wouldn't expect him to want to coach at LSU. He seems very "west coast", and I think he has ties to the Northwest.

If you look at his entire life, he's always been in the northwest. Born in Northern California (Yuba City, north of Sacramento), coached in the Northwest his entire career besides a stint at Pittsburgh for one season. Even his family still resides in Northern California.

There are simply far more plausible candidates that show more interest.

Great coach, just not one that would likely entertain LSU much.

He has a son with special medical needs. UW has a hospital close that specializes in his condition. That is the only reason he left Boise St. Goodness knows he had plenty of opportunities.

This is the problem I notice around here. Too many believe that LSU is some holy grail of college football.

It's just not true. The politics of all this bs puts coaches off.

Yes even though great coaches like the challenge if they can make the same money or close and not have to compete against Saban in the regular season, they won't.

Just because we believe LSU is the greatest place in the nation not everyone agrees

Yea i had seen that about him being out there for his whole life and his dad still being close by and all. Hadn't heard that about his son though. That makes sense. Its a shame we couldn't get a shot with him. I just would've thought lsu was a much better job than uw. Sabah wont be around for ever either. He was in my opinion just about the only guy that would have a legit shot to overthrow the evil empire.

I agree with your post in part. Our fans do treat the LSU job as this Holy Grail of opportunity. Many that post here are younger and don't remember the shite show that was the 90s. Dinardo finally stopped the bleeding of talent, and started keeping LA kids home. Saban brought it to a new level. Miles continued the recruiting and really did a great job. After Perriloux shite the bed, Les became a different coach and he and his staff never truly developed a quarterback.
Now my disagreement, I think this is a top 5 job on in-state talent alone. There are no other local schools to recruit what is the deepest talent pool per capita in the country. The elephant in the room is Saban. It requires a special kind of hedonism to want that job. I want someone who relishes the challenge.

Petersen is a Scientologist I believe too. That wouldn't go over well here. Plus, Seattle is a helluva better place to live than anywhere in Louisiana.
