A thread to track these two positions. Coker stepped down today, and State has been open for a while.

I could see Tony Levine or Brady Hoke making sense. He flamed out at Michigan but Hoke demonstrated twice that he can win at a G5.

I think you'll see Applewhite emerge as a leading candidate at one or both soon

Applewhite already said he won't interview for the Texas State job.

oh, missed that one

IMO that's not wise of him, he should at least interview, plus Texas St seems like the perfect place to get some HC experience

Could be waiting around just in case Herman actually does decide to leave at some point. Major could take over a program that's rolling.

This would be a smart move I think. He also just got back in the game since he was ousted from Texas and he job hopped quite a bit before. He might went to sit tight for a bit. With the talent they have coming in plus Ward coming back next year that offense isn't going anywhere

there's plenty of pussy in San Marcos. that place is awesome.

Craig Naivar, the Co-DC at Houston, is getting a serious look at Texas State.

Yea, he'd be divorced by the time he left Tx State. Too many fine easy women.

A san marcos sports writer said the finalists were:

1) Claude Mathis (SMU’s running backs coach)
[s]2) Houston Nutt (Ex Arkansas HC '98-07 & Ex Ole Miss HC '08-11)[/s]
3) Mike Schultz (Texas State offensive coordinator)
4) Paul Rhoads (Ex Iowa State HC '09-15)
5) Mystery Coach #1
6) Mystery Coach #2

Nutt is out, I believe. I was hoping for applewhite or naivar. Our dumb shite of an AD will end up hiring Schultz.

Football scoop is saying Paul Rhodes is a finalist at TX state

Why? I'd get a young hungry coordinator

Claude Mathis isn't qualified

They seem to like the washed up, formerly mediocre coaches.

He seems to prefer chubby Hispanic girls, so he's already in paradise.

Interestingly enough, Gene Bourgeois who is on the Texas State search committee went to LSU

LINK

Craig Naviar, the UH defensive coordinator, has been rumored to not even been contacted by the AD at Texas State (Larry Teis)

With Rhoads buyout from Iowa State, he can take a paycut and come to San Marcos. I don't think he's a great fit, however (defensive minded coach).

We need to hire someone that will open up the field, run a gimmicky offense, and hopefully win some games like that.

The biggest problem right now is that the Texas State University system has a rule that no employee can make more than the University president. The current pres makes around 450k. So they are currently working on getting creative with the contract.

Base salary of 440k + 40k per victory of something like that. Teis is a terrible AD.
