Vanilla was just spotted panhandling outside the rec, campus police en route

He got a pair of Coach O's soiled underwear.

No shite. He doesn't seem like the type of guy to be motivated by 1 or 2 mil a year.
He has roots in oklahoma. He wants more money for staff and budget not necessarily himself.
I just don't see it happening at this point. Once oklahoma engaged him i think it's pretty much done.

He's been spotted wearing nothing but a purple and gold loin cloth, he's in an all out Sprint

That is not germane to the situation.

quote:I'm inclined to believe the same. We really don't have any indicators either way- except for the [heavily weighted] exception that he was promoted from within. If Riley had been OC at some other school and got his first HC gig at OU, then it wouldn't be a factor in any "loyalty" equation. Noting he is not an OU alum (TTU).
Yeah of course it's all of that but that doesn't change my premise. OU is his preference or else this would be a done deal. They match, they get him.
But objectively... actually histrionically... my brain is telling me this is not true. Very few coaches ever made it to the top at their first HC gig. Change is part of the life of a coach to boot. The greats had to move to the right situation at the right time to be great. Certainly Riley, and his agent, are very aware of this. Woody Hayes (if you except he went from Miami OH to tOSU) and Tom Osborne are the only two I can think of off hand.
The counter to my own point would be he's been damn close at OU. Those same greats I mentioned weren't that close at their previous stops as HC. Does that mean he may think he can defy [most of] history at OU?
So when I put Panhandle TX boy, an alum at TTU, in only his 7th year (5 as HC) at OU and wonder if the ties that bind are that much stronger that what history says is the path to the road to be considered great, or at least get a NC, and I find those ties to be lacking.
Saban came in and changed LSU. He was our forever coach. He did win a NC. He left. And then even later joined a conference foe. Those ties aren't as strong as we think they are.

You're missing a very recent example, Dabo.
I know everyone on here thinks he's corny and not that good, but with two NC wins, he's certainly already more successful than most coaches.

I heard the same thing from my source inside OU. Was told Castiglione is balking currently and the overwhelming sentiment is that OU won’t match the LSU offer. Goes along with their history of not overpaying a head coach and Castiglione is taking a serious roll of the dice believing that OUs brand will sell itself as it always has prior to the move to the SEC.
One giant detail I heard from my source that I stated in my topic a few days ago was that the $76-$80 million dollar buyout to leave the Big 12 before 2025 is weighing heavily on OU.
The consensus in the athletic department at OU is there is already a lot of money they are fronting out and there’s no immediate return just because they’re entering the SEC (for instance if they do not do well their first season or two)

I’d normally just assume this would be settled by the school and the league…but I don’t think that’s the case. The big 12 is pissed and I believe they intend to hold Oklahoma and Texas to that amount.

You’re exactly right on this DBG, both OU and Texas have little to no choice but to leave the Big 12 after this season. Now that the rest of the schools know that the only teams keeping them afloat as a conference are leaving, well it’s pretty bitter right now.
Problem is that it is solely Texas fault with the LHN and jockeying to get their man as the Big 12 commissioner (Bowlsby) that let this atrocity be approved with zero profit sharing from Texas. Missouri, A&M, Colorado and Nebraska knew long ago, this was going to be the death of the Big 12.
OU fans can say what they want and yes they do have a rich football tradition but they followed Texas’s lead every damn step of the way and now the rest of the conference considers them both one and the same.

Josh Heuple will work just fine for them
