Exactly. Please read this from rebsfan20. No one wants to be holding the bag for dismantling a playoff team.

I know this. We don't have a Head Coach yet, and signing day is Wed. We apparently lost McKinley today as it is reported he has flipped to Ohio State.

You think these guys will sign when we don't have a coach on Wed.?

No we will not, our staff is better than LSU. He will finish out his contract, while not being on field. LSU cannot sign him without paying buyout, at that point you can legally sign him.

true there is no way he will be at ole miss next year.

He will not be a Rebel next year, he has reverted back to old Lane.

We wish you the best with him.

I don’t think y’all can do that without suspending him.

Correct. He will resign and LSU will cover the $4 mil.

Can anyone see Lane staying at OM after all this? Any hope he had of making a clean break are up in smoke.

He actually does not and for the betterment of football, you should all hope this remains.

Lane's image means a lot to him and the more tarnished it is hurts him deeply. This is why coaching post season is a major deal for him. He has always been a quitter or failure. Leaving for LSU without finishing the job will just strengthen that narrative.

Even if LSU pulled the offer, he’d likely have to leave.

They seem done with him, and if the reports that he threatened to take some of the staff and players if they didn’t let him coach the playoffs are true they are definitely done with him.

Going to cost $40M to make him go away unless they find a loophole.

Works for LSU. Pay the $3 million or whatever the buyout is. He’s worth every penny. The coaching candidates this cycle are poor outside of Kiffin. Just suspend him or whatever needs to be done so Lane can move on.

He absolutely does if Ole Miss lets this extend beyond their self imposed deadline. Ole Miss wants him to quit if he’s going but Lane doesn’t have to right now. He can hold out as long as LSU is willing to wait. Ole Miss either needs to let him coach post season or pull another move that ends the standoff. Replacement coaches aren’t going to wait around forever.
