Top 10 OCs to replace Crowton

In my opinion the Top 10 best OC candidates for LSU:
1. Gus Malzahn, OC Auburn
Unlikely we get him, since he should probably be interviewing for head coaching jobs.
2. Dana Holgorsen, OC Oklahoma St.
Should be our top candidate. Has had incredible success everywhere he goes. #1 offense with OK St. this year, #1 with Houston last year, #4 with Texas Tech the year before. He has even shown he can transcend Mike Leach's air-raid offense by having a great running game this year with Kendall Hunter. Not a one-trick pony as some board posters say he is. His offense outranks LSU in every category this year. OSU's pass ypg ranked #2, rush ypg ranked #29. (LSU's #108, #30, respectively).
3. Kevin Wilson, OC Oklahoma
Has consistently fielded a successful, balanced, star-studded offense year after year, but it's hard to see him leaving his current job.
4. Justin Fuente, Co-OC and RB Coach Texas A&M
#7 and #9 in total offense the last two years. #9 and #5 in rushing offense in that span. Clearly knows how to coach a running game.
5. Nolan Cromwell, WRs Coach St. Louis Rams
Was Texas A&M's OC last year, when they ranked #5 in total offense. Since he left, they are ranked #17 this year. He has experience coaching mobile quarterbacks. He coached three Super Bowl offenses under Mike Holmgren (2 with Green Bay, 1 with Seattle). They're not exactly Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce, but Danario Alexander and Danny Amendola have really emerged this season under Cromwell.
6. Kevin Montgomery, OC Baylor
Baylor's ranked #10 in total offense this year, somewhat out of nowhere. He was Co-OC/RB coach/QB coach for most of Houston's prolific offenses in the early-mid-2000s. Developed Kevin Kolb and Robert Griffin.
(Keep in mind all 6 of the guys above have major experience recruiting Texas and other parts of the South.)
7. Danny Langsdorf, OC and QBs Coach Oregon State
Was an assistant coach for the Saints from 02-04. "Langsdorf coached in the Canadian Football League and for the New Orleans Saints before coming to Oregon State. He became the offensive coordinator in 2004, and Oregon State has ranked in the top 10 in the nation for passing yardage each season since."
8. Lincoln Riley, OC East Carolina
Worked as WRs Coach at Texas Tech from 2007-2009. Helped develop Michael Crabtree. Served as interim OC in Tech's 41-31 win over Michigan State in last year's Alamo Bowl. In one year at East Carolina, he has brought their total offense ranking from #67 last year to #19 this year. Dude's only 26.
9. Al Borges, OC San Diego State
You know the deal from when he was at Auburn. Worth noting that the Aztecs are ranked #25 in total offense this year, up from #99 the year before he got there.
10. Mike Leach, unemployed
You know his deal.
4 Other Good OCs we are unlikely to get because they are coordinating for their alma mater:
Bryan Harsin (OC Boise State)
Galen Hall (OC Penn State)
David Shaw (OC Stanford)
Paul Chryst (OC Wisconsin)

This thread is fail without Steve Logan on the list.

I don't think it would work because of his craziness but Leach knew how to get the ball to his players and we have everything but a QB away from being able to run his offense.

DH FTW!!!!
Does Holgerson run a spread offense, or is he more pro-style?

He coached at Colorado with Les and also in NFL Europe. I like his resume.

Steve Logan
Sorry, I did my research somewhat independently (mostly current OCs), so he was kind of off my radar. Looking at his resume now, I wouldn't have a problem with Logan at all. Seems like he's a great QB developer. Consider him #11 on my list.

It's all good. You actually put some effort into your list. My list is comprised of Logan, Holgerson, and Malzahn. And we're not getting Malzahn, so it's really a two person list.

What about Mark Whipple? I have a hard time believing that Miles is gonna hire someone who runs the spread or air raid attack (although I would love DH). Whipple is a great QB coach and runs the power I with play action which is what Miles wants to run.

If we go after Whipple, we also need to go after this guy: LINK

Let me add some names to this list:
11. Steve Logan, RBs Coach Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Excellent developer of QBs (Jeff Blake, David Garrard, Matt Ryan). Coached with Miles at Colorado a while back. Served as East Carolina's OC and head coach for a few years, and is their all-time winningest head coach.
12. Blake Anderson, OC and QBs Coach Southern Miss
Somewhat of a darkhorse, but I really like this guy. He has led So. Miss to some very successful offensive seasons the last three years. This year, they are ranked #15 in total offense (that's between #14 Stanford and #16 Texas Tech, to give you perspective). He was also QBs Coach and OC for UL-Lafayette in 2007, when they set a bunch of Sun Belt offensive records. Was Co-OC for Middle Tennessee before that, and led the Sun Belt in scoring offense during his time there.

Steve Logan or Dana Holgersen should be our top candidates. Knowing Les though, he'll go completely off the radar for someone...

Gus' next move is to a HC job somewhere. Id like to see Mike bc if he wants a HC job at a major school he will need success as an assistant at a major school.

How is Holgorsen as a QB coach? Presumably the next OC will also be QB coach and there is a lot of ground to make up there.

He worked with Kingsbury, Symons, and the other Tech QBs, he's got a big time recruit from Texas going to OK St specifically to play for him.
