Wasn't he supposed to take the job until Houston gave him a raise and a new contract last December? That job, while in the SEC, isn't on the same planet as the LSU job. We will no doubt pay him at least what Miles was paid, which will raise his annual salary by $1.5 million(not counting the B12 bonus, because they haven't been invited and it's only a two year bonus). And LSU will also give him a lot more money to pay his assistants.
So, if he was set to take the USCe job, why wouldn't he jump at the LSU job?

He was gonna take the job until USCe lost to the Citadel which made him realize how much of a clusterfrick the team was

They need to offer a good bit more than LSU was paying Miles.

I think they will, or we're going to end up with a bad hire. The $4.5 million Miles was making doesn't get you very far these days.

So... why didn't he take the USCe job, if he was so set on.. you know taking it in your hypothetical.
Because he is going to Texas, which will be shopping soon.
Houston is in a great spot to keep winning until that job that he covets comes available. Moving to LSU and implementing his system is an extra unnecessary step in that process.
