it doesn't follow that just because I want LSU to win out means I want coach O to be hired permanently. I just don't want to wait to win.
guys, coach O could go 6-2 or better and still not win the west. we don't win the west he is not in contention. so there's no need to get upset about it.
so you're gonna root against the home team?

It's amazing that our fans can't realize this. They see that a good ol' Louisiana boy has taken over the program...and subsequently throw all rational thought out the window. You don't go 3-21 in conference play over three years and then suddenly become an elite head coach a few years later. Being a stand in coach for 8 games with systems already in place isn't the same as being the head coach year in and year out. The fact that our fans would be "happy" with Orgeron when guys like Herman and Fisher are realistic options is just astonishing.
You Da Real MVP! Preach
I think Ed O is exactly what we need right now to finish this season strong and on a high note, I don't, however, believe he is the coach we need to take this program to higher levels in the future.
I'm telling y'all I can feel it, I can feel that Herman is the next Urban Meyer type. We can not let this guy get away.

You don't get it though. O has a legit chance to win out because of what has happened.
An extremely talented team that brings back 18 starters has been down in the dumps at 2-2 and just had their coach fired. A team that has been very basic and very mellow which leads to being undisciplined.
Now what happens when you have a coach come right in with the spirit and energy to give this talented unit a wake up? What happens when teams now have no idea WTF you are going to do? They can't rely on bumbling idiot to F up clock management or run his RB into 8 and 9 man fronts, or long developing 2 WR routes with zero safety valves. They can't rely on him sitting on a lead or consistently going 3 and out tiring out the defense.
Then next year, all that starting talent is gone and you have to build a new staff in places like OC, S/T, DL, and wherever else. Now you really have to oversee everything in the program. I just don't like the vibe of that when there is a legit chance of LSU getting, IMO, the next great HC.
I say Ed O likely gets LSU to finish with a 9-3 record and then somebody really wants him. Maybe Kentucky or Boston College?

What are your thoughts if he beats Saban, Bert, Sumlin and Freeze this year?

Sadly, I've got a hunch that you'll be disappointed.

Look, I get where you're coming from. I really do. I love Coach O and the energy he's brought to the program in just a day. But he really isn't the man LSU needs long term. Sure, if he wins out and turns this season into something special he does deserve to at least be considered.
The question we really need to be asking isn't who can make this program exciting, it's who can bring this program back to contention in the West. Who can beat Saban, Freeze, Bielema and Sumlin on a consistent basis? I'm by no means saying we need a coach that will win the West every year, but we do need a coach that can be competitive every year. I just don't think O is that guy. I think he'll do good things in the interim, but beyond that, I'm not sure he's the right fit.
couldnt agree more...

well good luck on getting Fisher, cause it aint happening, he is not leaving an easier path to the national title at a national relevant program with good recent history.

What would you have said in 1999? It's got to be Erickson or so-&-so. Would you have included young Nick Saban?
The point is there are probably coaches out there who are cutting their program-building teeth on mid-majors or back bench power 5's and are future stars. That's what a proper coaching search will turn up.

The fact that he hired Pete Jenkins at DL in less than a day tells me the man would be good at hiring assistants.
I get it. I really do. We all want a coach who comes with a resume. Tom Herman.
But if we don't land a top choice, I'd be apprehensive about hiring a 4th or 5th choice, as opposed to promoting O and telling him to put together a staff.
Les Miles was a 4th or 5th choice. No thanks.

Coach O is the perfect interim coach. He is a high energy guy that will keep players motivated and a relentless enough recruiter to keep the class from falling apart.
Im not sure he can be more than that though.
