Ok, in that case, is TAF interfering in the athletic department every time it writes a check to pay a coach's supplementary salary or to fund infrastructure improvements?

I assume (don't know for sure), that TAF's commitments to the athletic department do not contain any conditions of performance, personnel decisions, etc. Therefore, IMO, even implicit threats are interfering. Now, I'm not saying they shouldn't keep him informed of future funding levels / shortfalls, but tying it to a specific personnel decision is walking a fine line. This is somewhat similar to what got Auburn in trouble.

You don't think Motel Chains and other businesses make more money when LSU is successful?

I don't think there are any performance conditions from TAF. But TAF can't give money to the athletic department which it doesn't have.

I would be very surprised if General Richard or any TAF Board member went to Alleva and made threats or even demands. General Richard would probably kick them off the board if they tried to do that, IMO.

It would also surprise me (inside info here) if any event, or non-event, which would threaten the income stream (contributions) from members was kept a secret from the Athletic Director. That would almost be a dereliction of of the fiduciary responsibilities of TAF. Especially if the decrease in donations might threaten compliance with existing legal commitments, including outstanding debt obligations and coaches' compensation contracts.

A failed attempt at sarcastic humor.

I was trying to say that much of the thread is rumors and name calling, not by you. The idea of apologizing for taking a thread with little to no substance in a different direction was funny to me. No offense intended in any way.

It was galant of you.

Good move but I still have and will always have my concerns with coach Miles.

It would NOT surprise you if it WAS kept secret from the AD? ...If the income stream was threatened?

but wouldn't withholding money be basically the same thing (and by withholding, I mean personally not sending a contribution I might send otherwise?) I think it is a very fine line, although I'll be jumping for joy to see Crowton gone.

Ok..im still confused. You think TAF kept the possible or actual loss of money secret from the AD?

No. Members contribute voluntarily. They can also NOT contribute voluntarily. TAF legally has to be a separate entity from any department in the university. If TAF can't meet its financial obligations, LSU is not on the hook. This includes the bond sales and repayment for the new Alex Box as well as all of its other obligations.

I don't think TAF is in any danger of going bankrupt. I'm just saying if people are assuming anyone from TAF went to Alleva with the purpose of making demands or threats, they are wrong. Meetings between TAF and the athletic department on financial matters are routine.

Any perceived weaknesses or impediments in TAF's cash flow or support from its members is communicated as a matter of courtesy and implicit obligation, not as a threat.
