Yep not going to happen, he would need to be the highest paid DC in the country for him to leave I am assuming. Because his defenses have been ranked higher than LSU just about every year he was a DC. It is a lateral move and I will bet a bunch of the so called experts would perceive it has a downward move. It makes no sense at all unless he and Saban are no longer getting along which there has been absolutely ZERO noise on that front.

If Bama lets him walk for a lateral position, I think were screwed. This would just reconfirm that this is Saban's defense. You could plug in Harvey Updyke at the DC and Saban would make him look like a defensive guru.

Not saying he is bad in anyway but think we may need fresh ideas on defense. We could do a lot worse without him but not gonna melt if he leaves either

If you really wanted to troll Bama, float a rumor about Miles talking to Smart 30 minutes before the national semifinal game.

He could actually tell Miles more of Bama's playbook than Chavis can with Sumlin, considering we don't really have one.

This made me laugh...

Really wish he would take a head coaching job somewhere and prove himself and possibly bring back when saban leaves

If this "its Saban's defense" logic is true then wouldn't that mean Muschamp wasn't a good DC at LSU or after?

Smart could be looking to leave because he knows he'll never get credit. It could be that he sucks but no one will know unless he leaves.

This would be the best Melt ever! First A&M melt, then we melt after they take our coach and then Bama melts after we take theirs...the irony would be too much!

It'd be funny, LSU gets Smart, Bama promotes Steele. That's where the melt happens. Then everyone will throw a fit we didn't get Steele.

I can see this. Bama defense may need fresh blood.

It cuts both ways, though. Apparently Saban can't hold a team under 40 points in a bowl game now.

I think Smart probably thought the Alabama job was his if he stuck around, but may not be as certain any longer.

He should be happy they are not in that final against the Quacks.

I don't want anybody from Alabama or from the SEC. Let's us find our own rather than relying on Bama......

He was LSU's first! He coached our db's in 2004. I wouldn't mind this hire.
