I just think this whole idea of a 8 win clause and how it is being discussed is internet bullshite.

He is just tired of all the bullshite here and will be gone unless his wife and kids get him to stay. Our fanbase is out of control right now and about 40% of them are pissed with this season even though we will end up with only one recorded lose.

Thanks for all the wives and kids and people in baton rouge that make it such a great place to live for coaches that the families of our last too coaches Miles and Saban fought to stay in baton rouge.

This is perfectly legit and totally understandable, esp. looking at the years Brown, Meyer, and Saban had, and the grief he took over '08 and '09, and the first six games (wins) of this 11-2 season. I support his request 100%.
You guys are weak, Miles needs to decide if he wants to be LSU's coach or MI coach, period. Two 8 win seasons in a row and everyone including you will be calling for his head b/c 8-4 guareentees the Indy bowl. Move own Miles its apparent that MI is home for you and BR will never be that place.

He just saw how Mack Brown, Urban Meyer, and Mark Richt all had tough seasons.

And none of them were fired. Why would you put anything in a contract that allows a coach to continue to pile up 8 win seasons and still be retained without a buyout is beyond me.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: an "eight win" clause is a nonsensical, unenforceable fantasy.

From a contractual perspective, it is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard.

8 wins is okay but it should really be 9.

7-5 (3-5 SEC, 4-0 OOC) plus a crappy bowl win = 8-5

8-4 (4-4 SEC, 4-0 OOC) plus a mid-tier bowl loss = 8-5

8-4 with a bowl win or 9-3 with a bowl loss should be the minimum acceptible IMHO.

I don't think so. Miles has too much want to win to be satisfy with 8 wins.

I buy that!!!!

I have no problem with a 8 win season as long as he doesn't settle for that... and he doesn't come across as one of those

Jesus, people here are true idiots. This isn't about a clause in the contract its about full administrative support of the way he runs the football program. He isn't saying that he wants to win 8 games a year. He means when the occasional down year happens that there is understanding that its par for the course in big time college football. How can people not understand this?

8 win clause is fine with me if the the clause says it must be 8 wins in the SEC.

While I agree with this sentiment how could you put this in to a contract? The only way is to have a clause that says his contract automatically gets rolled over if he wins 8 games. This is a very bad proposition.

it's possible that the contract offer includes the removal of the big buyout clause, and Les countered with a buyout provision if they try to fire him after an 8 (or more) win season.

First of all, numbnuts, I was responding to the title of this thread: "8 win clause." The term clause implies that this notion is being incorporated into a cotract. Which is stupid. It will never occur. LSU should NEVER bind itself contractually to coach who wins a meager eight games.

Second, let's imagine you are correct: Miles just wants informal "assurances" from the AD. How the hell would you enforce that? If Miles goes 8-4/7-5 next season and LSU fires him, what would Miles do, exactly? Whine that LSU broke its promise? Cry?

The informal assurances mean nothing.
