The Problem with Art Briles

Strictly football -- he'd be a great hire.
We all know what happened at Baylor. I have no idea specifically what he did, didn't do; he did accept responsibility and apologize.
If there is any possibility of future legal action, or NCAA punishment of Briles, then, he's a no-go. If not, then the PR and perception issues must still be dealt with.
There's the problem. LSU (Alleva as the face of the athletic dept.) is poor in getting in front of issues. LSU always comes out looking like the "bad guy" in the media. Very, very poor administration and communication management.
If Orgeron seriously wanted to hire Briles, he would need to discuss w/ Alleva, who THEN would NEED to discuss w/ the LSU administration (Alexander; BOS). Here's what we DON'T want: Orgeron interviews Briles; it's reported; Alleva says, "It's Ed's decision, sounds good to me if he wants to hire Briles!" Orgeron "hires" Briles; THEN, Alexander and/or the BOS shoots it down.
All played out, very publically, in the media, making LSU look asinine (as we did last November.)
So, if Briles is seriously a potential candidate, in order to avoid a huge fiasco, there needs to be heavy coordination b/w: Orgeron; Alleva; Alexander; BOS. If Alexander and/or the BOS would not approve hiring Briles, that should be determined NOW, and not AFTER he's "hired."
Do any of you out there feel like Alleva can deftly handle such a situation?

We already have enough people in the athletic department that botched handling a rape case. Briles is a brilliant offensive mind but that kind of baggage isn't what we need.

Too many good options out there to hire a guy this radioactive. I mean hell if you're dead set on wanting a Briles just hire Kendall.

Why does James Franklin and Brian Kelly get a pass?

That's a pretty roundabout way of saying the AD and the admin should be on the same page if they make an offer to the toxic Art Briles.

Right. A roundabout way of discussing a problem with a roundabout athletic dept. administration. You would think that highly-paid executives (Alleva, Alexander) talk periodically to ensure they're on the same page. Obviously, this didn't happen last year with the Miles "firing" debacle.
So, if Orgeron decides he wants to hire Briles, he needs to tell Alleva BEFORE he says anything publically; Alleva then needs to walk over to Alexander's office, sit down, and have a chat. "F. King, Ed wants to hire Briles. Can you float this w/ the BOS boys and see if it will fly, or if there is heartburn?"
Yeah, I know, sounds pretty simple. But I am convinced these highly-compensated executives do not understand or practice simple, basic communication.

And in case I wasn't clear, I'm opining that re Briles, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. It would take a heavily-coordinated effort to successfully hire him as OC. Would have to make sure there are no future charges/sanctions/unforeseen repercussions. Would have to make sure that Alexander and the BOS wouldn't fold like a cheap suit when the first inevitable women's rights group's denouncement of the hire is aired.
Nothing I've seen based on past performance tells me that Alleva, Alexander is capable of steering the ship through such treacherous waters.
As I said, football only -- great hire. But too difficult to make this hire work, and, just not worth it. Plenty of other viable options.

OP, Briles did not "accept responsibility and apologize". All that he's said was "I made a few mistakes". Nothing about the 2 former players currently serving time in prison for rape. Nothing about the gang rape involving 5 former players. etc etc etc. You can argue what is right or wrong, but it's a fact that the perception is that he knew & covered up crimes against women for several years.
