the next houston texans HC

as a native houstonian and texans fan, it seems as though the gary kubiak error- EERRRRRR- era could be coming to a close. hopefully the texans lay down one more week and bob mcnair sends kubiak packing.
soooo, my question is, who are potential replacements for the texans job? i think its a pretty good job considering it has a decent QB, top 10 draft pick, adequate LT, franchise WR, NFL's leading rusher, and some star players on D: cushing, mario williams is hype, but above average, demeco ryans is solid. most importantly, it has a low entry point. get to the playoffs the first couple years and youll probably get a statue out of the deal.
theres always the usual suspects that come up every year: cowher, gruden, ect. who do yall think the next HC will be?

If Cowher doesnt end up at the giants he will go to the Texans IMO

Cowher will be a fan fav with either of those fanbases.

don't think anyone knows right now.
I haven't heard anyone seem to have any idea other than the usual suspect. (Cowher)

agreed but in a very tough division.

quote:im intrigued, but have always wondered why no one has given him a shot yet. seems to be a really good coordinator- currently running and 3-4 and ran the 4-3 in chicago
Ron Rivera
quote:i doubt he left peyton manning in his prime only to come back and try to salvage the texans
Tony Dungy

Brian Billick
quote:everyone thinks hes a brilliant mastermind, but it concerns me his last playoff win was the superbowl 8 years ago with a made-to-win team. i know dungy left him a playoff team, but this is a comparable situation with lots of good players- just needs the right mentality to push em over the hump
John Gruden

John Harbaugh
quote:switching to a 3-4 would be tough- but im intrigued here, too.
Rob Ryan

but right now he is still there.

they have talent and could turn things around quick.

rumor is Dallas was going to hire him but passed because he had no 3-4 experience, hence the move to SD to gain experience in the 3-4.
agreed with all your comments. I didn't say i was suggesting them or they made sense just posting what some Texan fans want- correct or not.

If the Texans do in fact fire Kubiak, they'll be after a guy with proven experience as a HC (Cowher, Gruden, Fox, etc). They're not going to take a risk after a decade without making the playoffs.

They already have a guy who gets away from what works, makes few adjustments and ensures the team comes out flat every game. At least Kubiak knows how to manage the clock.

Rob Ryan would be badass imo.

why?

A guy with ties to the organization whose coaching star is on the rise may be a good fit: Troy Calhoun.

quote:my only problem with him is we run a 4-3. when kubiak got here, we retooled caper's 3-4 to kubiak's 4-3 preference. to change it back to a 3-4 makes my stomach cringe and i cant help but feel like itll be a much longer transition.

Is it? the Colts are 9-6 and Jags are 8-7and are the Jags really any good? They lost at home to the freaking redskins and beat the Texans on a hail mary. The Titans suck. Its not that tough of a division anymore imo.

it is in most years. This year you're right it has slipped immensely. The Titans are down, The Jags are mediocre, the Texans are nowhere, and the Colts haven't looked like the usual dominant Colts.

Well, they had Capers before Kubiak era, and the offense was pretty awful (aside from a couple decent years from Dom Davis.) They've really got to strike a balance this time.
You're right, though - really bad D this year. That secondary is awful (just ask Tebow). Losing Ryans was a huge blow.
As a Saints fan, I can say that you can turn a really bad D into a really effective one (in one year) with the right hire at DC.
