Agreed I hope it’s Aranda. Just think about how much easier recruiting would be for him and his staff.

Recent Natl Champs
Wealth of in-state talent
Great facilities

Now compare that with Baylor

Shitty city in Waco
Although football is high up on priority, it’s not LSU high up
You’re competing with several P5 schools in state for recruits

Let’s get Aranda Woody

Might bring Jeff Grimes with him. Great OC and they average almost 500 yards per game. Granted they are in the B12.

He’s also been a coach at LSU, so he knows the area and has recruited here.

The only way I see him not coming is if he stays to become the next head coach at Baylor. However, I don’t know if that’s something he would do.

No you don’t . . .

———————————————————————

Have you been paying attention?

LSU has a lot of issues to get behind them that Doesn’t make this presently a Top Five job. We are all kidding ourselves if we totally ignore the reality that is the cloud hanging over the University And the Athletic Department / Football Program. Just because we got rid of the cancer doesn’t mean we don’t still need to rid ourselves of the stain and stench that accompanied hiring Orgeron and putting up with his frequent gaffes and other issues. The guy emulates everything that has been laughed at about him the past six years. If Louisiana was solely about good OL boy networks and 100% Cajun, then we hired “one of us”. We all know that isn’t the case however.

That Aranda had tremendous success at LSU is the best indicator he will do so again (if we are fortunate enough to get him back).

The more you think about Aranda the more I'm reminded of the LSU/Ole Miss game in 2019, when Ole Miss kept running for touchdown after touchdown on Aranda's defense and he never once made an adjustment capable of stopping them.

Not to mention that while at LSU, Aranda was always a liability on the recruiting trail. Hence, because recruiting is the lifeblood of LSU, I hope to never see Dave Aranda being the face of LSU football. Because if Dave Aranda becomes the face of LSU football, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss will not only be beating LSU on the recruiting trail but also on the football field every year.

You can laugh all you want, but he was a big liability on the recruiting trail.

Can someone please elaborate on this? I've heard this over and over but have seen no examples. Why was he supposedly bad at recruiting?

He never brought home the bacon. He relied on the good recruiters on the staff to bring in the beef. As Aranda is not a gregarious outgoing person. He is very analytical and very quiet person.

Amazing how many people on TD know Aranda up close and personal. To the point of how he interacts with recruits and their families in their homes. Impressive.

Aranda's All Time Commits

Recruiting looks pretty good. Definitely above average.

Missing something?

Why is his current class is rated higher than every other class Baylor has had since 2015, other than 2018? Doesn’t every coach rely on key recruiters on staff?

I honestly don’t trust the rep that he’s a poor recruiter. He’s been around the college game a long time, and it would beggar belief that he would stay around this long if he was such a poor recruiter. He already has organizational skill, and he has a keen understanding of the team dynamics, so much so that he designed our entire defense to hide their limitations in every season he was here. Not only that, he developed his position group to a high level regardless of their recruiting ranking.

I am good with Aranda or Napier.

Don't want Bill O'Brien or PJ Fleck. Tucker is a good cerebral hire.

I would tolerate Jimbo but he would be my third choice at best.

It looks like Joey McGuire is set to become the Texas Tech head coach.

Why is that important?

If he thought/knew that Aranda was leaving, McGuire would be the Baylor head coach.

To me, going to Tech signals that Aranda is staying at Baylor.

I guess we'll see.

Better question, why would McGuire jump on the Tech job when TCU just became open? Surely his name would be up for both if he’d be the next Baylor HC.

I'd be okay with Aranda. I don't think he's a sure thing because of the short resume as a head coach, but I feel like he could grow into something special. He's on my shortlist of preferred candidates.

I never wanted O as a coach, but I always wanted him to be THE recruiter for LSU.
