It's a conservative choice hiring within the current staff. I think it'd get an all around meh from LSU fans. Nothing dumb but nothing earth shattering.

I think he would be a perfect hire for the time being. Keeps the coaching staff together and recruiting class. We can look for a new coach next year if it doesn't work out.

No way. Give me Pelini before Chavis, and I don't want Pelini.

The reason that Chief doesn't need to be the next LSU HC is because we don't need a 30 year veteran asst coach trying his hand at something new on our dime.

And why would we do it for one season and basically forfeit next year and chalk it up to a year long coaching search.

It wouldn't be horrible.

He is very well liked by players and a well respected coach. He would also certainly fire Crowton. I was told he doesn't like him as a coach.

Because I believe there is more to lose long term by jumping into a quick hire now and being stuck with a failure paying him 3 million dollars a year, probably for 5 years. Plus no telling what it would do to our recruiting class if they bring in new assistants and let the old one go or end up going to Michigan. Think about it!!

Or they could just hire Malzahn and require that he retains Wilson on offense. He then also has to keep Chavis and his choices as defensive coaches.
