What has Herman done to deserve 5 mil.? He might make it 2 year.

I agree with you. Alleva smart enough not to get played by Herman and Armstrong.
He did get played

Herman DID NOT want to come here at all. It was all to force Texas hand. Alleva did what he had to do with Herman.

No, Herman did not play it Smart. He could have played Texas against LSU for more money if wanted more money. Herman got what he wanted and didn't want to play games like Fisher did. Props to Herman.

What the frick does this even mean? Of Alleva knew he wouldn't come here then is he choice 1a of 3 whole choices? Why not expand the search beyond people you know want come here?
Alleva is running this program into the ground man. We are wayyyyy past the point of no return. Now we just gotta hope it's not decade setback

Alleva's should have made Texas pay out the arse to get Herman. Instead he bowed out early and let Texas off the hook. Texas can offer 2.5mil to Aranda and force LSUs hand now.

Wow, that deal went down in a New York Minute. That's proof right there where Tom Herman really wanted to be.
Let's see now, 5 million to coach the University of Texas and live in "Progressive & Clean" Austin or 6 million to coach LSU and live in "Third World & Filthy" Baton Rouge.
Easy decision there for most.
Why do yall think so many LSU Alums live in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin?
There are "Quality of Life" issues there to consider. I'd take 1 million less to live in Austin. It's not all about "Les Bon Temps Rouler.".........

Wasn't this pretty much common knowledge?

What has Ed O done to earn 3.5? He might be worth 2-2.25 tops. Alleva not only settled for Ed O, he's also overpaying him.

These fears are overblown, IMO.
CEO can recruit, which means LSU will have a lot of talent. Even if O fails, as long as the recruiting classes are good, LSU will have talent for whoever replaces him.
It's when the talent drys up that you need to panic. At this point, there's no need to panic.

We'll get three for around that price hopefully. O, Kiffin, Aranda. And O was not my choice but you gotta play the cards you were dealt.

You could never be my client. I have minimums that I assume well exceed your net worth based on lack of understanding the art of negotiation.
It doesn't matter if we would have won the bid war. Texas stuck their foot up our arse with the press release. You counter until they have to pay much more than they wanted to because we know Herman wanted Texas and vice versa. Instead Joe let emotions get in they way of sound business decisions and he took his chips off the table. It's his way.

LSU's verbal to Herman was over 5M/year. He wanted to be at Texas. Texas wanted him to be there. This is not a surprise. Based on the Texas job being open this year there was nothing, NOTHING, Aleva could have done to get Herman to Baton Rouge. If the Texas job was not available, Tom Herman would be in Baton Rouge right now looking for a house.
If you want to criticize Aleva, do it based on last year's fiasco when he DIDN'T fire Les. If he would have fired Les last year he could reached out and hired Herman immediately. Herman would have already been LSU's coach and the Texas job coming available this year would have been irrelevant.

No, Alleva deserves all the blame for calling off negotiations with Herman.
How do we know Texas was willing to go about 6 million? We don't.

It appears JA would rather make Herman "pay" by losing 2 mil per year than to make UT "pay."
Once JA pulled out, Herman lost his leverage and a few million dollars as well.

That's a good point. He must have known it wasn't about the money at some point. Herman wanted Texas and used LSU offer to force Texas hand.
