Tennessee has "serious reservations" about hiring Gruden

The concerns surround the fact Gruden has not coached at all in nine years and has not roamed a college football sideline in 26 years. Also, Gruden was basically a .500 coach (57-55) in his seven years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers even after winning the Super Bowl in his first season with the Bucs in 2002. Some contend that roster had been largely assembled by former coach Tony Dungy, who had one losing season in his 13 combined years with Tampa Bay and the Indianapolis Colts.

Because of the sensitivity of the search process, sources close to the situation did not wish to be identified.

This is not to say Tennessee would not consider hiring Gruden. It's just that the Vols' concerns are real. Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy and former Oregon coach Chip Kelly, two names that have also been linked to the Tennessee job, are still thought to be among the candidates.

Ah so already starting with " we didn't want him anyway"

They should. The Gruden thing is such a half baked idea that has disaster written all over it.

Their biggest reservation was him not accepting the offer.

Don't get the obsession with Gruden, especially at the college level.

VOLS turning down Gruden this time would be something

How much will UT pay for a .500 coach?
Posted on 11/17/17 at 4:19 pm to 1999
They’ll end up with Jim Bob Cooter. Calling it now.

Cooter is from Fayetteville, Tennessee. He was arrested in 2009 on an aggravated burglary charge after getting into bed with a woman by climbing through a window of her Fort Sanders apartment.

Mike Gundy is among the coaches considered for the Tennessee job.
I just don't see the Tennessee powers that be hiring Gundy. Hell man, putting myself in the shoes of a rabid Vols fan, I would prefer bringing Kiffin back to Knoxville over hiring Gundy. I just don't see Gundy winning over many Mama's and Dads in SEC country living rooms. All just my personal opinion of course.
