Multiples sources, in UT athletics as well as boosters, executives and former players, said that Currie flew to the West Coast earlier this week to “gauge (Petersen’s) interest” in the Volunteers’ opening before Currie flew to the Bahamas to join Rick Barnes’ basketball team at the Battle for Atlantis tournament. Currie was scheduled to fly back to Knoxville Thursday.

Peterson last year took his Washington squad to the College Football Playoff and has amassed a sublime 128-28 record in 12 seasons as a head coach going into Saturday night’s Apple Cup rivalry game against Washington State.

Petersen, who with a win against the Cougars would clinch his ninth season of 10 or more wins, inked an extension earlier this year with the Huskies that elevated his average salary to just more than $4.8 million. However, per published reports in Seattle, Petersen’s buyout to leave UW is just $1.5 million.

I highly doubt this happens but flying from Knoxville to Seattle just to gauge interest seems a little strange

If true he went to Seattle to meet with Peterson; it was a waste of time, resources.

Lots of chatter in the last hour about Peterson to Tennessee. We will see.

Could be wrong, but I feel like there's no chance.

He doesn't strike me like an SEC guy.

I think it's more likely they flew into Seattle and drove to Pullman.

I'm glad to see Currie doing work if true. Also, that boosters/administration have given him the blessing to go get the best available

I think Peterson is a great coach. I just have reservations about the learning curve in the SEC. Not on the field, but all off of it. No more of a west coast guy then him.

This is the stuff LSU fans begged for. Even if it’s a pipe dream, great job by the AD to at least try. Peterson to Tennessee would be the best hire out of all the names tossed around.

So what world renowned specialist is in Knoxville that can take care of his kid? Because supposedly the best in the world is in Seattle.
