Would Cal go after McIntyre? Even though he isn't big name and really has no ties? What he's done at San Jose is COY worthy.

There's a lot of speculation on who Cal might go after, but no one really knows. I guess it partly depends on how much money they have pledged by the big donors for the next coach's salary. Yeah Wilcox is mentioned because he used to coach at Cal so Sandy knows him.

Yes, MacIntyre has done a tremendous job at SJSU. A lot of people don't realize Dick Tomey had to deal with severe scholarship reductions during his time there, and they are only now recovering. Plus I don't think they have much financial support, so anyone who can turn them into a winner is doing a good job.

It will be interesting to see what you guys do (assuming he gets fired). He survived another day though. The meeting got pushed back to tomorrow. I'm just really hoping we can hang on to Wilcox.

It's amazing how fast somebody like Tedford (and Ferentz) can be the latest "hot commodity" then be on the hotseat or fired.

For Tedford, I feel like it's been a slow transition from hot commodity to the hotseat. Basically since their 2007 collapse, the AD has been behind him while the facilities were being upgraded. I didn't really understand that because he was recruiting very solid classes with crap facilities and turning out good NFL talent despite not having very high win totals.

This is the frustration of Cal fans. Since 2007, Tedford has been underachieving badly. He's had decent recruiting classes, but the team has been terrible the last three years. Off the top of my head, here are the notable players that have played for Cal since 2007:

(Keenan Allen, soon-to-be 1st or 2nd round pick)
Cameron Jordan, 1st round pick, starting DL Saints
Tyson Alualu, 1st round pick, starting DL Jaguars
Alex Mack, 1st round pick, starting center, Browns
Jahvid Best, 1st round pick, Lions (hopefully retired; too many concussions)
Mychal Kendricks, 2nd round pick, starting rookie LB, Eagles
DeSean Jackson, 2nd round pick, Eagles.
Mitchell Schwartz, 2nd round pick, starting tackle, Browns
Shane Vereen, 2nd round pick, Patriots (struggled with injuries, competing for starting job now)
Bryan Anger, 3rd round pick!, punter, Jaguars
Craig Stevens, 3rd round pick, starting tight end, Titans
Thomas DeCoud, starting safety, Falcons
Chris Conte, starting safety, da Bears
Justin Forsett, change-of-pace back, Texans

I haven't even mentioned successful Tedford guys pre-2007 like Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch, Desmond Bishop, Nnamdi Asomugha, etc.

It's this perennial underachieving with good players that is sooo taxing to the Cal fan psyche.

Oh I forgot to mention, if you look at a list of number of players in the NFL by college, Cal is usually ranked about #9 or #10. Cal produces NFL talent, but doesn't produce in Berkeley.

It's going to be McIntyre or Roman. I bet Roman at Cal would be ridiculous

It will be interesting to see who they go after. They are so broke, but they better look at this as an investment. If they bomb this hire, they are in deep trouble.

I assume donors pledged enough money to make a good hire. Considering the new facilities and California location, I think there will be a lot of interest from good coaches.

I've had season tix for 10 years and have been saying Petrino for weeks now. He'd be a great fit in the wild Pac12. We need to score points and I just don't think we can become a smash-mouth team like Stanford.

Sandy just sent out a letter to season ticket holders. She noted that the low graduation rate is a big concern, and she said the APR is so low that Cal is on the verge of being banned from the postseason in the near future. Very strange considering Tedford's supposed emphasis on good academic support for the players. But I'm sure this is going to weigh heavily when they evaluate coaches. Some of the hot candidates haven't been head coaches for very long (or not at all), so I don't know how they can evaluate this aspect of the job.
