He’s a good coach but I have not been that impressed with him yet especially at Tulane. He didn’t magically build them up. Fritz made Tulane what it is and they have not looked good this year in all honesty. They are winning ugly even against mediocre to bad teams.

Maybe in a few years, but not now.

I need to do a dive into him tomorrow: hopefully Tulane friends can chime in.

This is one spot where I do have sauces. They aren't worried about LSU taking a look at him. It surprised me but I don't know the politics of Tulane

We haven't played a full 60 minutes this year. And while we are 6-1 we easily could be 2-5. South Alabama jumped up on us quick, Duke almost came back on us. We easily could have lost to East Carolina and we beat Army with a last minute td.

Last year Tulane beat up on a bunch of bad teams. Navy was 10-3, USF was 7-6, USL was 10-4. However his 5 losses aren't all 'bad'.

1 was to Oklahoma.

1 was a 7 point loss to Kansas state where we got hosed by a refs call.

We lost 3 straight to end the season but Mensah had checked out and we had no real backup qb.

The 3rd loss in a row was the bowl game where Sumrall played Ty Thompson the entire game so Ty could get some game tape to help him transfer as a qb.

If Sumrall somehow stays the best thing would be for Joe Craddock to get the UAB job. I think Sumrall needs an upgrade at OC.

Sumrall seems to like 'strong run game/ball control' offense. Tulane is also shitting the bed in the redzone. Way to many field goals.

Say no more. I don't want him at LSU if he is having issues with his OC/offense at a lower level. Huge red flag.

He reminds me of Matt Campbell in a good way.

Sort of want if we swing and miss on a few others. Same for Golesh.

I can't get behind a defensive guy who doesn't understand offense.

You want us to talk you out of it?
Okay.
Think Sun Belt Billy.
And he won his last two games on fluke plays in the last minute.

I like him.
Just stating the other side.

Yea in this era defense is a huge risk unless they are a stud recruiter like a Lanning.

Didn't say that I wasn't happy about being 6-1. OP asked a question and I answered. Fritz was similar at Tulane until he got the right OC.

Current Tulane season ticket holder and lsu grad and former lsu ticket holder checking in. I support both programs. Sumrall is a good coach, but I think he needs a few more years to get experience for the big jump to a major program. The end of last year was a let down, but I believe it was due to Mensah being checked out. Yes he is defensive minded, but he will make the necessary changes at off coordinator if needed. He runs a good program imo. The players love him and he demands respect. He definitely doesn’t seem to put up with any bs. As for the comments about him taking over Fritz’s guys, I don’t believe that. Tulane had like 50 new players last year in his first year. Fritz’s guys went to Houston or transferred. Also, when Sumrall sees a need, he gets it. See retzlaff from byu. Imo Sumrall has continued the Tulane success, which at a school like Tulane can’t be easy to do with lack of facilities and school support.

I honestly wouldn't hate it. Im strongly leaning Kiffin, but as always and just like with Jimbo, I still have reservations.

He wants Auburn. No one has convinced me we are firing Freeze, though.
