A family friend of mine works in the athletic department and I saw her over the weekend so I told her “Billy Napier will be the next head coach”
(I want Napier but I was just seeing what she would say)
& she said “no they’ll hire Mel Tucker before they hire Napier”
I was slightly inebriated at that point so I don’t remember much else from the conversation.
Just thought I’d share this with everyone
I forgot to mention she’s like the football game day manager or something, I know she works closely with Woodward
(I want Napier but I was just seeing what she would say)
& she said “no they’ll hire Mel Tucker before they hire Napier”

I mean that seems obvious. The political establishment in Louisiana and the president of the university would love the hire. The only question is how far down on the list he is.

I don't think this means what you think it means.
Mel Tucker is probably in the bottom tier of P5 coaches that LSU would target. So she knows Napier is even lower than that on the list. In other words, she was a bit insulted that you suggested LSU would stoop to a G5 coach for this hire.

The guy is a proven winner though, wether he comes from G5 or P5 and just hearing how he manages a team and his recruiting phases process plus connections here, I think he’s the perfect guy for the job. On top of that he REALLY wants the job
