You completely ignored the part where I said multiple UF fans have mentioned it as a reason why he'd be great at UF, mainly due to the recruiting advantage for him. It's in the main paragraph of his Wiki as well. If you want an actual opinion on how I think race has helped him instead if me saying how succeeded despite race, I'll give you one: I think he gets a lot of media love due to being a successful black coach. There really isn't many in college football currently. Maybe CFB needs a Rooney Rule

Mullen would be a disaster at UF. If you think McElwain struggled with the boosters and media, wooh boy Mullen would implode.

I'm not Taggart's biggest fan but beyond Kelly and Frost he's probably the next best option unless we hire someone out of the blue. Good recruiter, SoFla connections, experience with heavy rebuilds, offensive guy. He's not a homerun but suggesting he's Dooley is insane.

Taggart makes a lot of sense but I would be more interested in Frost. Of course he may not be interested but I’d make him tell me no.

I'm more than fine with UF hiring him. He will recruit well but I'm not worried by his offensive philosophy. His resume is far less impressive than other options. Taggart may win the press conference but that won't result to on field results. Florida should look for a football coach, not a spokesman

Good point, they were actually in the Big East which is a far better conference than the current AAC. So I'd say that season by Leavitt is still more impressive than Taggarts one great season at USF

The season they reached #2 in October and ended up 4-3 in conference play?

Still more impressive than anything Taggart has done certainly

Playing politics with boosters and the media is part of being the coach at UF or any big time program. It's why Muschamp got four years and instead McElwain was shot into the sun midway through his third. Mullen would be worse in that regard tham McElwain, and he'd probably recruit worse, too.

Taggart would get along with boosters and the media, and he'd recruit the shite out of Florida. Also it's not like he's a slouch coaching wise; that last USF offense was nasty.

Sure, his resume isn't as impressive as Kelly and he's not the phenom Frost is, but he's about as impressive as Norvell, Kiffin, Strong, and that next group.

He might not be our next Spurrier but if we were to hire him worst case he'd be Zook and stockpile talent for the next guy. He's not Dooley.

Stop being a dumbass. The 11-2 USF team was more impressive than the 9-4 one. Who fricking gives a shite about peak ranking

They beat ranked Auburn and W VA teams that year early on. I’ll give you that. But they lost to UConn, UCF, and Rutgers—2 our of 3 are in the present-day AAC and the other team is now a Big Ten cellar dweller. Hard to call that more impressive than an 11-2 record, IMO.

I’ll also grant you that Taggart’s defenses at USF were hot garbage. That would be my main reservation with him.

I respectfully disagree, that year put USF on the map and allowed them to be a one of the better tier 2 schools in Florida. If not for Leavitt, Taggart wouldn't have been able to have that success at USF.

Did Spurrier get along well with boosters? He doesn't seem like the type that would. I get that UF values the coaches relationship with boosters highly, but I'd imagine the boosters don't give a frick what the coach is like if he's got a good product on the field(Mac didn't).

Spurrier was a former Heisman-winning QB at UF. Of course he was well-liked.

I don’t disagree but O’Leary laid some groundwork for Frost as well. I know O’Leary’s last year was hot garbage but they had some impressive seasons with Bortles at the helm and the win over UGA in a bowl game in 2010 raised UCF’s profile.

Of course, I’d still 1,000% still take Frost over Taggart.

Agree on this point as well.

Honestly, the next guy that gets hired that is going to have a rough go of it if his name isn’t Kelly or Frost, regardless of how swell the guy is.

If the reports about Kelly and Frost are true, this has been an awful coaching search for UF. They beat everybody to market and they may still have to settle for their 3rd (maybe even 4th choice). This very public Chip Kelly saga will also end up knocking some of the shine of the program if Kelly indeed ends up going somewhere else over UF. Pretty much knocks UF out of the top 5 jobs conversation, IMO.

If you’re not a big fan of the Gators such as yourself, it’s probably fun to kick back and watch this shitshow unfold.

Chip is unconventional. I am not counting him out at Florida.

I do think he’s a better fit at A&M since he’s recruited Texas.

A&M and Tennessee have zero interest in the Kelly circus. We're not playing that game.

Kelly contacted us, we said thanks but no thanks. Then some chode at CBS says he rejected an offer from us, an offer was never made

I'm pretty sure Nebraska didn't offer him either, they're all in on Frost and aren't even considering anyone else, but the same CBS article said he rejected them too.

He'd be a better fit at A&M than Tennessee, Nebraska or Florida, for sure. But from what I've heard, they haven't reached out to him and have no plans to do so.

Florida may have had a real shot at him, but to win in this conference, you gotta recruit out of South Florida, Atlanta, Baton Rouge and Nawla, the Carolinas, Memphis, Hampton Roads, and now Nashville.

Kelly could get away with just recruiting the state of Florida, but picture that Winnie the Pooh lookin motherfricker in Dade county sitting in the living room with a defensive end prospect from Miami Northwestern with his 11 siblings who all have gold teeth and dreads, and you see why this would never work.

Haha. Truth. That’s probably why there were rumors that UF was pushing Shannon to be retained on staff.

I was born and raised in central Florida, lived in Miami in the early 80's (Cuban invasion, cocaine cowboys, etc), went to Southeast HS in Bradenton. I'm a Vol, but I know Florida hoods like the back of my hand, Chip Kelly would not fit in

I tell you who would be great at UF, Strong. Some may laugh at it because of Texas, but he would own that state, especially if Frost goes to Nebraska.
