Western Kentucky was like on a 22 game losing streak when he took over. USF has won 2 games when took over. Each year his teams improved.

He also mentioned that Charlie Strong is a strong candidate for Ole Miss which would be a home run for them imo

He's basically a Coach O hire the way I look at it. He's done fine at other jobs but not excelled. Known for recruiting and not much else. He's not known for any offensive or defensive scheme, just recruiting.

O didn't do fine at any job and he damn sure didn't build any program from the ground up.

What are the excuses for the other 6 seasons that he produced average or below average teams?

Do you recall how bad WKU and USF were when he took those jobs, or are you just reading Taggart's wikipedia bio?

You're probably equally unimpressed by PJ Fleck getting Western fricking Michigan to the Cotton Bowl.

Not as a head coach but he's done well as an assistant and interm. I guess you could say he built WKU from the ground up but USF was already a legit football program who had poor leadership before Taggart.

I'd be melting a hell of a lot more if Florida got Frost or Kelly, both are far better coaches than Taggart

USF ain't Florida where it's just mandated that they'll rise from the ashes. They had only even been D-1 for a little over a decade when Taggart got there.

They've had better seasons than what Taggart put together, and the C-USA was a better conference that year Leavitt had them at #2 than the AAC now. USF also has more resources now than when Leavitt was coaching.

They weren't in CUSA that year.

I'm sure they do but what does that have to do with anything?

Good point, they were actually in the Big East which is a far better conference than the current AAC. So I'd say that season by Leavitt is still more impressive than Taggarts one great season at USF. Do you really think Taggart is a great hire for UF? He hasn't proven anything other than he recruit and get media members to support him. Like I said, his biggest accomplishment is being this first of his skin color at all three coaching jobs. No championships or anything else cool

And of course the resources the coach has matters, if Taggart had more resources than Leavitt isn't Taggart more likely to succeed?

No, waiting for the iron bowl tomorrow. Wbu?

PS: I can't wait to hear Taggarts great achievement besides being the first black coach at WKU, USF and Oregon. While I'm amazed he was able to pull this off, I'm still waiting to see actual results on the football field

Even though they immediately went on a 3 game losing steak to other average teams after reaching #2 in the country and finished 9-4? Being #2 was a program high point but not a better season than the only time they've finished ranked and with double digit wins.

Leavitt used to work out of trailers and shite when they were getting the program started so I'm positive what Taggart had was better but Taggart didn't take over from Leavitt. He took over from Holtz. I highly doubt the resources blossomed overnight when they made that change.

Taggart went 7-1 in conference play and 11-2 in his last year at USF. One of those losses was to No 13 FSU. The other loss being to Temple, an in-conference team that also went 7-1 in conference play. He rebuilt USF after Holtz and he recruited that bulk of the team that narrowly lost to UCF tonight. Tell us again about how skin color is why he was hired at Oregon, though.

I think Frost will kill it, and I’d love to have him at UF but by several accounts he’s going back to his to Nebraska and not in play. Taggart, IMO, isn’t the slouch you present him to be.

Look at the years before his last year. He had one fairly impressive year at USF so let's not act like he was a savior at USF.

Show me where I said he got hired due to skin color dumb frick. I said it was his biggest accomplishment because I've heard that from multiple Florida fans and it's all over the web. No conference titles though. If you want to call me out for being a dumbass comment make sure I actually said/typed it before you call me out. Thug POS

If y'all weren't happy with McElwain you won't be happy with Taggart, I'd bet. Taggart will struggle to win the East against Kirby but I could see him consistently winning 8 or so games a year with a SEC championship caliber team every 4 years. I really doubt he dominates the East. I'm just not impressed by his resume at non power programs and believe someone like Mullen would do better

Then why make the comment his biggest accomplishment is skin color? At the very least you certainly implied that’s why he has gotten as far as he has. Spin it however you want, but the implication was pretty clear. But sure, I’m the thug POS.

Again, he had to rebuild after Skip Holtz. Did he do it as fast as Frost at UCF? No. Did he win the conference? No. That why I acknowledge Frost is better, but Frost isn’t in play by several accounts.

So, if Taggart is a bad coach and he isn't getting jobs due to skin color, what's causing the "media hype train" behind him?
