Strong

Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong confirmed this morning that he has been hired as the new head coach at Louisville.

"It's a great opportunity for me,'' he said. "I think I'm going tinto a situation where I have great support and great resources to win. And it's also a good chance to build a program.''

Strong will travel to Louisville for a press conference this afternoon to officially announce his hiring and has reserved further comment until then. He must also be formally approved by the school's athletic association.

Strong did add that he has been given the opportunity to coach in the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati and plans to accept. He also has no plans of hiring any current Gator coaches.

No shite. Why would any UF assistant go with Strong to Louisville unless they were one of his Florida position coach buddies and were promised a Coordinator promotion at UL?

BTW, how did Porter get the Memphis gig without ever being a Head Coach or even an Offensive Coordinator? Yeah, we know he was a former Memphis running back and was a great recruiter at OSU and LSU, but what's he done to show he can organize and run a program. Must have had a great interview with the Memphis brass, because who hires a lifetime running backs coach to oversee and manage their program? Huge risk there.......

cant wait to see him do big things here. i dont see next year being better, but if he can pull in the recruits here, which is possible given the facilities, i see louisville gettign better and the big east becoming a really strong football conference,

Cincinnati > Ohio State

Pittsburgh > Iowa

And I wouldn't mind seeing WVU play Penn State.

I think he'll do great in Louisville. I could see him only being there 3 yrs before something bigger and better comes calling.

Louisville is a great school to prove you can win at before you take the reins of a major program.
