And it was horrendous.

continued in the PAC-12.
He coached someone elses team for 8 games.
This is not a good resume....at all.

Agreed, but as I said previously, if he wins out this season (which would likely include an SEC championship and playoff berth), his resume becomes sufficiently impressive to consider.

Fact.

I disagree. I don't think an 8-0 record as interim is near comparable to a similar record as head coach, where the assistants, philosophy, and recruiting have all been on you. He's playing with house money. There's probably 4 guys on the LSU staff that could have a good run as interim the rest of the season, and it wouldn't mean anything. Hell, Peveto could probably go 6-2!! We're hiring a guy for the next 8 years, not the next 8 games.

Correct.
He will have a losing season in three straight seasons in the SEC. So he will have something Miles and Saban didn't when they got hired.

The OP said he would have something Saban and Miles didn't have if gets the job at LSU.
He was exactly right with that statement. Three straight losing seasons in the SEC. The other 2 are too good to ever have that

If and Only if Coach O does a BETTER THAN AVERAGE job the rest of the season, I would not have a problem with a one year extension.
The PLAYERS deserve to NOT PLAY for 3 head coaches in a 4 year career....constant change is not good.

He was also fired as a HC. Something Miles or Saban never was before they became the LSU coach.

Is this going to go on for three months? Where did all of this come from?
The coaching search would be a near failure, even if Coach O goes 7-1 or better, if they were to do anything outside of extending him a year (which is about the best he should hope for, and they probably should only do that if he's undefeated, and even then....eh?).
He's a great Number 2, he's super exciting on the sidelines, but he's not a head coach. His time as a head coach is enough to say no. Herman, Fisher, Kelly are all much better options, and his interim record should have 0 bearing on whether or not we go after these guys.

You can't take away the fact that his HC career started in the SEC and continued in the PAC-12
Correct. And was 3-21 in conference games at Ole Miss.
And the USC thing was a band-aid job, finishing out the season for someone else's team. He did a good job, but it's far different than truly being the permanent head coach.

quote:lol no. You don't give 1 year contracts to college head coaches. Kills recruiting. And just better than average won't cut it.

then USC stuck to their guns and hired Coach Sark even though Coach O had USC moving in the right direction and the players loved playing for Coach O and we're giving their all for him...
USC should have done more homework on Sark. His issues clearly dated back to his Washington days.

I doubt that happens but if he runs the table, you have to give it to him, IMO.
Dude, Mies went 7-0 last year and he's now fired.
And O would still have a losing record.
Do you really want to have to look for another coach in 2 years.
I really think that O should only be hired if it is a lifetime contract. That way there would be some consequence for all of this stupidity.
Maybe, that's the way to frame it. If O goes 8-0 would you give him a lifetime contract?
frick NO!!!!!!

I don't envision him as being LSU's head coach permanently, but I'm at least willing to give him a shot to prove himself this season before writing him off. How about you give him a fair audition before deciding he can't run this program?
How about no.
How about hiring a proven coach instead.

can't argue with this. If coach O beats saban, that would be impressive. Saban might throw the game just because of how scared he is of herman
