Sorry if this has already been posted.

He intrigues me as an OC. He runs the Briles air raid style of offense. Texas ran for 230 yards per game and nearly 3000 yards passing with a freshman.

You get a protege from the Briles coaching tree that can run that style of offense without the scandal baggage.

Not saying he's the guy I just hope he gets a shot.

He would probably want to bring in his OL coach Mattox. Not that it is an issue but O may not want to get rid of Grimes.

Coordinators are not really in a position to make demands like that.

read on a note on a texas site regarding gilbert

quote:

Sterlin Gilbert on the Carousel

New Texas HC Tom Herman will not be retaining any of Charlie Strong's 2016 staff.

Per this source, former Texas OC Sterlin Gilbert is currently in play for UCLA OC and will be interviewing in the wake of Kennedy Polamalu's ouster. It is also being speculated behind-the-scenes that if current Cal OC Jake Spavital interviews successfully and is hired for the San Jose State HC job, that Gilbert would be a virtual shoe-in for his position at Cal.

interestingly enough, they also had this tidbit regarding the LSU job. i believe this source is on the coaching side.

quote:

A random note on the coaching carousel from the same source:

"Lane (Kiffin) will be the new OC at LSU. He'll leave Alabama. Think of the all-star coordinators," (Kiffin and renewed DC-Associate HC Dave Aranda). "All (new HC Ed Oregron) has to do is drive the bus. Hope he doesn't wreck it."

Idk Grimes background but idk if he's familiar with this type of offense. A style of offense goes hand in hand with O Line. This is a completely different blocking scheme with Tighter splits and different technique. Guys like Craig, Ensminger, and Juluke may be gone as well if we go Veer and Shoot. It's all about familiarity

Interesting...I'm not opposed to Kiffin at all but he's just now adapting to a spread. He was typically more of a pro style/west coast guy in recent years.

Teams in the SEC would be crappy pants every week if LSU could successfully pull off a Baylor style air raid offense. We have the talent to do it. Not with Etling though.

dude was in a game with a 200+ yd tb and run the qb on 3rd and 4th and 1. failed miserably. he runs handoffs, 10 yard outs and play action flies. sound eerily familiar. NO.

if you get a briles, that would instantly be fixed with Stidham.

If that's all you think this offense is, then you're clueless

Would love to get Stidham here. He's balls deep in Auburn though isn't he? Or TAMU.

This! I like Etling and I feel he won some games for us that Harris could not have. That being said, Etling has a HORRIBLE deep throw. These "air raid" style offenses hinge on a qb that can successfully throw the ball downfield. On the other hand, Harris can't make the short and intermediate throws to save his life. So moving forward, who is the qb an OC can build an offense around? Can Scott run the offense? Will Brennan be good enough to start day one? Whoever we get, most importantly, needs to be a proven developer of qbs. Personally I do not care which qb gets the nod as long as they give us the best chances to win games.

Not a chance. LSU is trying to keep this staff together as much as possible. Thats why I am hesitant to believe any new OC is going to come in here and immediately make LSU some offensive powerhouse. LSU needed a complete overhaul but we got a tune up.

If we miss out on Kiffin, Sterlin Gilbert could be the answer. Bring in Briles as a shadow coach to help with game planning. Gilbert is from Texas so that fills a recruiting need as well. Gives us two young innovative coordinators. Seems a a pretty solid option!
