He gave up over 30 to Alabama (30) , Ark, (31) and OM (38). Everyone else was held to 24 or less. He did so despite having a Les Miles offense and horrible QB on the other side. Tiger D had to play more than half of the game most games and had little margin of error given the lack of offensive production. Look at the points score by LSU in those games—14,16 and 17. Steele did an admirable job considering the big picture. Also note , he held Texas Tech (Mahomes) to 27 in the bowl game. In 2019, Aranda gave up 38, 38, 41, and 37. Give Steele a similar offense (score 31 plus a game) and we lose 1 or 0 every year.

Steele was the undercard at his own intro presser to O and no one shed a tear when he left and Aranda came in. O knowing that and bringing him back would be funny.

Coach O knows that game too. I doubt he could beat the master.

Steele would be a downgrade from Pelini

why pay a buyout for an old guy

I thought we wanted a young mind, new ideas, new energy?

Didn't like him when he was here. I was excited when he left. DO NOT want him back. Honestly, if we can't get Reeves or Arnett, then promote Raymond. No re-treads please.

No but it would be less exciting than the last time, when it was met with a shrug.

I personally think Steele was trash his only year here. It was blown coverage galore.

Less than Pelini but still a decent amount

Steele is a good coach and good recruiter. He really does not want to be here. He wants to retire in Alabama because the state has an outstanding retirement program there. LSU will go toward the youth movement with younger coaches.
