re: Spinoff: People that want Miles gone, who can LSU legitimately get?

I live near Memphis and follow the "other" Tigers, and really respect Fuente. He has done an amazing job turning around a program that Larry Porter burned to the ground. They were dead last in the FBS by miles just 3 years ago, and he has a bowl game and a share of a title in an even tougher conference than they started out in.
All that said, he isn't proven enough. He needs to take another step before a program like LSU hires him. Being at TCU and Memphis, we have no idea if he can recruit anywhere near an SEC level. And his offense is a bit on the mid-major gimmicky side. However, he has built Memphis' success on rock-solid defense, so he does fit the bill in that respect.
He would definitely come, but this would be an even bigger reach than Dooley to UT. He at least had legit SEC ties and recruiting experience.

Promote Chavis. Done.
Great idea. Promote a coach who hates recruiting and loves to coach from the box.

Art Briles or Gary Patterson
Nope

Briles and Patterson may have been realistic options in the past, but they are winning where they are with a LOT less pressure. Patterson's TCU team went 4-8 last year. You think he would have survived a season like that at LSU? Doubtful.
Bottom line- unless they want to coach in the SEC, they wouldn't take the LSU job.

If anyone got promoted, it would be Cam. He at least has some major college HC experience. He didn't do a terrible job at Indiana, either, considering how difficult it is to win there. If we couldn't land the right guy, he would be about as good a fallback option as you could wish for.

Briles is not leaving the state of Texas, ever.

should have shown that can turn a program around
What in the actual frick is wrong with some of you? Yes. Yes. We need a coach to turn this program, which is obviously in the shitter, around. I swear, this kinda shite is the reason every other fanbase on this board says that we are a bunch of fricking idiots.
If many of you had your way, you'd fire les. You'd want that satisfaction. And then every possible hire would laugh at the offer to coach here after you ran off the winningest coach in our history, with potentially a 9-4 record, one year removed from 4 10 win seasons in a row, and a serious chance at being national championship contenders next year. Holy shite man. Get a fricking grip on reality.

None of this will happen so we should all calm down

If Miles leaves on his own terms right now, the best option with the young talent we have is to promote Cam and keep the rest of the coaching staff in tact and make a run at it

I think the bolting for the "prestige" job has lost its luster. Freeze can make sick bank and not have questions like "how does it feel that not winning a NC is considered a failure?", which was posed to Urban.
Spurrier left Fla because he missed the NC by an arse hair in 2001, went to the Orange Bowl, and he was called a failure.
Like people said before, whether you love or hate Miles, who can you bring in that would guarantee a comparable winning percentage? It is a very short list and those guys aren't leaving to come here.
Someone said Jimbo Fisher? GTFO please. He is breaking records at FSU.

I would add to your wish list:
Has a good record against top programs and top coaches -- like Miles was 2-2 against Oklahoma. Obviously, if you're coming from a second tier school like Saban and Miles did, you won't be beating Bob Stoops or Jim Tressel every year, you don't have the players. But a good coach should be able to hold his own against the big boys.
Has had several players get drafted by NFL teams -- shows he can recruit and coach up talent. I remember being impressed that there were a couple of Okie State guys who were drafted each year Miles was there.
Come from a major conference school. You're playing with the big boys. I don't want a guy who pees in his drawers when he faces a tough crowd in Tuscaloosa, or Auburn, or Gainesville
