Right now, no program, I will say it again, no program is having continuous success in the NCAA AND putting large quantities of successful players in the NFL.
WTF are you talking about? Individual NFL success doesn't dictate anything. Putting players in the league does. Alabama, Clemson for two are crushing on field NCAA success and sending players to the NFL.

Alex Smith is a starting QB in the NFL. There are only 32 of them and although he isn't a fantasy star, he's been an NFL starting QB for closing in on a decade.

Well aside from his intelligence

1. He's coached and recruited at several stops around Texas and now heavily recruits our main Texas hot spot. Don't forget that he is the one that brought JT Barrett from Texas to Ohio St.

2. He not only coached under Urban Meyer for four years, he brought the power running game to Urban's spread system.

3. His offense is PERFECT for LSU and Louisiana/Texas talent. A power running game that utilizes big backs, small backs, and dual threat QBs along with a real passing game to match. LSU can barely get average passing for its pro style attack, yet he can grab any dual threat and make him pass for 300 yards just like that.

4. His system is a Saban slayer. Saban's Bama teams haven't lost to a pro style team since his kicker missed several FGs in a 9-6 game vs LSU in 2011. He has, however, been beaten several times by several different spread systems.

5. He actually cares about defense. Don't let the game vs Navy fool you, that Houston team didn't allow more than 70 rush yards or 2.69 ypc in any game this year. They gave up all of 2 rush TDs this year before Navy, and only gave up 2 vs Navy. Houston had yet to give up more than 23 points in any game this year (Oklahoma), and every other game was 16 points or less. Houston gave up 382 yards vs Navy and 18 of Navy's 45 points was from 3 FGs, a safety (where the center spiked the ball out the EZ), and a pic 6. They bludgeoned an 11-2 Navy team by 19 points last year in Houston.

LSU already has the talent on offense to run his system and dominate year one, and with Aranda here, the defense shouldn't go straight to hell even though we'll lose a ton of the starters. Every time I watch Greg Ward, I think of what Lindsey Scott could do in his offense.

Our leading WR (senior future top 3 round draft pick) has 17 receptions for 176 yards and 1 TD. His 4th leading receiver is a true freshman QB with 22 receptions 170 yards and 1 TD. His second leading WR has more yards and TDs than our top 3 pass catchers combined.

He is still producing offense even though he was missing his top two RBs for a 2nd week in a row. The guy doesn't have the talent yet at Houston to sustain losing his top 2 RBs, but they still put up 42 puts 540 yards and 40 points and 484 yards in back to back games. LSU's 3rd stringer RB, for a decade at least, would be better than any RB Houston has had outside of maybe Charles Sims.

LSU would be a fool not to go all out on Herman 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option no matter what Ed O or any other coach does this year.

Slow down there, Clemson has had 1 good year (in the minds of LSU fans) and potential for another, although had our program come of a natl champ appearance and started the season like that, our coach would have been on the hot seat, because it was "the way he was winning games". Dabo Sweeney would have not made it with the LSU fan base the fan base would have demanded he be fired after losing to an instate rival what 3? 4? Years in a row?

I know he was my example, but just throwing similarities out there. He didn't coach smith, dan Mullins was his OC at Utah. I will stick with cardele Jones and Troy smith

don't get why Herman gets so much hype over Justin Fuente. Fuente worked a miracle at Memphis. They were an absolute abomination of a program for decades before he arrived. Now he's gaining experience at Virginia Tech leading a P5 program and already has them ranked. Herman may be a better coach than Fuente in the long run, it's too early to tell, but Fuente is a tad ahead on his resume currently because of the P5 experience. Virginia Tech is a strong dark horse candidate to win the ACC.

He was on the list last year when we thought Miles was getting canned. Hell, he was the hottest name going around last year from a national standpoint. Looking at V Tech's schedule, they make it to the conference championship game with probably 2 losses at most, (honestly though, I don't see them losing again in the regular season). Managing to keep Bud Foster to pair with Fuente was a work of magic and it's what LSU should try at all costs with Herman and Aranda.

This is a bunch of nonsense. You're interjecting your opinion as fact.

The real facts are that Clemson has lost only 8 games total in the last 4+ years and are going on 6 straight double digit win seasons. They also dropped about 10 draft picks into the NFL last season. Your ridiculous contention that NCAA on-field success and sending successful players into the NFL has been mutually exclusive is flat out wrong.

ETA: Also, Les Miles lost 5 games in 2008 following the NC in 2007. Your comparison to Dabo winning close games is a reach at best. Neither Miles - or if Dabo was at LSU - would be on the "hot seat". Miles was on the hot seat and fired because of his refusal to adapt to a changing football landscape and basically lying to the AD that he would. The consecutive Alabama losses didn't help, but it's the losses to MSU, Auburn, Ole Miss and Arkansas that determined his fate.

This coaching search could turn out very interesting, in the end my bet would be we do not get Herman and there is a dark horse or name not mentioned that is being talked to right now.

The top two being mentioned are Herman and Jimbo and both have very good jobs with Herman being wooed by programs as good as LSU ,Texas and USC

I am sure our AD has put the question to both coaches agents and he may already know and is going after one of them or has moved on. I hope our AD is not letting them string LSU along and if so we need to cross them off the list.

The LSU coaching job is in the top ten of all college football coaching jobs and should demand a yes or no, not I will let you know after the bowl games.

OFFER
Herman 1st if he will not answer move on
Jimbo 2nd and if he will not answer move on

wait until the season is over and evaluate coach O
Offer him the job or not and move on

Go after the best available coach and have in hired prior to bowl games and start rebuilding the program

Im all,in for Jimbo at the present time.

Proven talent costs a lot of money, and is very unlikely to make a lateral move.

I think we're all missing the big picture here that nobody has brought up. Just think of the Texas melt if they fire Strong and we pick up Herman.

Up through last year everyone EXPECTED Clemson to shite the bed near the end of the year, there was/is a term. Clemsoning, it became such a thing they asked Sweeney about it before the ACC championship game "coach are you worried about clemsoning in this game" and he got pissed. If it was simply my opinion how come a verb came from they way they folded at the end of each year before last year?

I am not saying Herman is not the best choice, just pointing out there are flaws and it is a chance, just like every hire. To say that he will have automatic success ( not putting words in your mouth, or suggesting YOU said that) is naive in my opinion.

Do not want. He is not a 10 year guy IMO. Our fans are to expectant and he can go to UT or USCw and make the same if not more for less expectation and almost a guaranteed playoff spot with only 2-3 crucial wins a year. Hell, who'd want to come to the SEC when the commissioner is a blatant coward without the leadership skills to hold teams accountable?

but it's the losses to MSU, Auburn, Ole Miss and Arkansas

One loss to MSU ever, a team with Dak that got to #1 in the country that year isint a fireable offense. Recent histoy with arky is bad, and certainly led to his demise. Ole miss is a tough one, we beat an ole miss team we shouldn't have 2 years ago, and have lost to some pretty good ole miss teams. If they are so terrible, then Alabama losing to them would be considered a complete travesty.. right?

You're being hard-headed here. Yes, it was one loss to MSU, but it was a blowout until Mullen prematurely let off the gas. The combination of MSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas, all in the last 3 years with Bama domination as icing is just too much. Bama struggles with Ole Miss or a TAMU, then runs the table. LSU loses to Bama plus 2 more.

As far as Herman, I agree there is reason for caution - limited sample size - but this is high stakes and you have to be willing to take risk if you want to play the game. But I still think Herman is worth it for sure. I prefer Jimbo because he has a better resume. For those goofballs saying they don't want Herman or Jimbo, there is no cure for dumb.
