I think he actually was offered and was coming in 2007, he just wanted to win the title first. Then he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and had to back pedal. He was not offered the job in 2011, Brandon met with Miles because he had to, its a well known fact he does not like Miles and there was no chance he would hire him. The current temporary AD is another story and he could legitimately offer the job to Miles..

Herbstreit went on national TV and reported that Miles had accepted the job, I think you guys are pretty cool and all but I think Herby probably has more information that most everyone on this board combined concerning whats going on in the Michigan coaching search.

I don't doubt there were discussions, but I don't think it was ever offered to him. I tend to agree had all hell not broken lose on that Saturday, he would have been at Michigan in 2007.
Edit: I'm tired of hearing the "he's already turned them down twice" crowd pretend like Les is a hot commodity in the coaching world.

He was never offered the job in 2011, Brandon is a moron and actually wanted Hoke instead.

The fact that the AD went on a trip with his family and was out of contact in the middle of a coaching search also kinds of leads me to believe that he was already sure who he was hiring.

If you use Sumlin as the measuring stick for what Miles should be paid, then Miles should be making around $10MM per year. If other SEC want to over-reward their coaches, that's on them. I imagine that will correct itself in the not so distant future.

The one coach who everyone agrees did not receive an offer from Michigan, again, was Les Miles. He had been handled shabbily during the 2007 search, and it appears he wasn't treated much better in 2010, either. All overtures to him were strictly a show designed to appease his supporters. When Rodriguez asked Brandon in December of 2010 if he already had someone lined up, Brandon denied it but said he would hire Les Miles "over my dead body." The rest was theater.

"Well, if Hoke was his first choice, he could've signed him up prior to ever talking to Les or Harbaugh," LSU chancellor Mike Martin said. "Don't you think?"
On Monday night, Jan 10, Brandon was quoted by the Detroit News upon his return from his interview with Miles in Baton Rouge as saying, "The deal is not done."
Martin was asked how can a deal be in the works if no offer is on the table?
"I think it's pretty clear Michigan wanted Les," Martin said with a chuckle. "And I'm just glad he's staying at LSU."

That is what I said yesterday.
And there are posters who cry about how recruiting gets hurt by any negativity posted against Miles, and yet Miles has remained silent and has let this drag on.
And if Miles does make a statement that he's not interested in the Michigan job, he needs to also include that his agent is not speaking to Michigan on his behalf as well.
