re: Scot Loeffler is new Auburn OC

Trooper hasn't done that much to prove himself to be an OC. He has done a good job with our receivers, but he is not very good at watching tape and game planning. This is coming from coaches that have had him on their staff that I was able to talk to. Yes he is a dynamite recruiter, but he has a long way to go before he is ready to be a big time OC.

It certainly suggests Auburn struck out on all their top options. Waiting five weeks to hire a guy from Temple?

Not at all. I think Trooper as proven himself to be a valuable asset to Auburn football. At some point someone is going to have to give him an opportunity.
Ask Utk or Okie Lite if they miss having him around.

As for the hire itself, I am the same as everyone else has said so far. Dunno why it took so long. It appears this guy has mostly been a qb coach with 1 year of experience as an OC. Correct me if I am wrong.
So I am reserving judgement right now. Curious as to why it took so long, not a big deal in the long run that it took a few weeks longer than people like however. I am not sure it is the "big name" that is going to help us close the deal in some recruits that are still deciding, but that is generally the position coach that does the majority of recruiting anyway.

What has he done to prove himself as on OC though?

Are you suggesting Troop is happy to never recv an opportunity?
I think the man has desire - if he's not given the chance he'll leave.

I don't really dislike the hire, just the way it was done. I realize he was probably a fall back guy, but it took way too long to hire someone.

Feels like we got plan B. Why did we wait so long to make the hire?

Was not Plan B.

I feel like I have been waiting for a girl my buddy said was hot as hell. Then when she walks down the stairs you are not sure whether you would hit it or not, and need her to get under better lighting.
I just don't know what to think.

It does suggest that, but the same thing happened to saban with McElwain after missing his top 2-3 choices and that worked out ok.
Will be curios to see what Chiz says about it, but doubt it will be very informative.

Not at all, but to assume he is ready to be an OC because he has worked hard and improved our receiving group is a big stretch.

I like the hire more than I would had we hired Cam Cameron
I'm not a big fan of NFL OCs in the college game. They're way too conservative
.
I also like the fact we're keeping a spread element in our offense. We've recruited 3 years to this offense

more proven doesn't necessarily make it a better hire.... IMO, Loeffler will be a better hire, but he obviously doesn't the OC experience.
am I happy with it?... that's a question that cant be answered for a long time...

Marshall is going to tow the company line all the way.

You have to understand your friend's standards before you let her come over.

Yep. Can't really put much stock in that.

What has he not done should be the question.
He went out and interviewed for two other positions this past December. He obviously wants the opportunity. Now they bring in a guy wo is younger than him with only 1 year as an OC.
As much as all the other fans hate Trooper and cal him names and make fun of his towel waving none of them would bitch if he were on the staff.
It should have been at least reported that he was being considered - like the Rooney Rule. just sayin

Agreed. May turn out to be the next great college oc, but it doesn't feel like it. BVG felt like a HR hire, this feels like a seeing eye single off the end of the bat.

So what kind of offense does he run?
