That trial was about Sandusky. I seriously doubt Schiano wants to go to court and be deposed by UT’s lawyers and have to go on record as to his involvement.

UT allowed the public opinion of their hire to be swayed by social media.

if this was a Tier 1 coach (or Gruden), the fanbase would have never had this type of response.

this whole thing is incredible

Schianos connection to this whole Sandusky thing is tenuous at best

the Vols fan base ran with the narrative, and group conformity took over; there is not a sane person alive who is going to go against child sexual assault allegations.

WestCoastAg that is a completely irresponsible comment to make. Barely a shred of hearsay evidence exists that Schiano had any knowledge of what was happening at Penn St. McQueary said Bradley told him that a coach presumed to be Schiano witnessed something, and both Bradley and Schiano deny that allegation. Based on that only, people assume that he was a part of the Penn St. scandal. Neither the NCAA nor any law enforcement authority pursued any investigation into Schiano because the connection was so attentuated. No conviction and no finding of any wrongdoing. That’s called a witch hunt and not the American way.

This. The only guy who has read up on Schiano's involvement or non-involvement in the matter.

The rest is just crazy talk.

Those are the things you should consider when you cover-up child rape.

He should do nothing. Just like he did years ago when faced with a grown man raping a boy in a shower. That mistake has caught up to him. He’s fortunate to have had the jobs he’s had knowing what we know now. This isn’t someone else’s fault and who said he had a signed contract? Do you have first hand knowledge of this?

You cannot be this stupid can you?

It is agreement that they will not negotiate with another candidate while they negotiate with him. Nothing stops them from saying....hey we aren't comfortable with how this is going. We have decided to move on to other candidates and that is pretty much what has happened here.

UT fans are using some iffy Sandusky allegations (allegations that were dismissed in court) as an excuse to depose of a coach because he isn't named Jon Gruden.

some politicians trying to score political points jumped onto Twitter and dug the issue even deeper.

this might have been the most investigated case of county/state/federal/NCAA levels of the decade and GS was never once questioned for his role or brought in a complaint civilly or legally.

those are the facts and im not sure why they make people so uncomfortable to stand up against. you present actual evidence to people and theyll go to great lengths to still argue against something that is proven incorrect. its fascinating.

So everybody who ever coached for Joe Paterno while Sandusky
was there is toxic. It's been 6 years since the story broke. Schiano must have seen this coming for years.

Tennessee should have seen this coming if they vetted Schiano.

Seems like a bunch of Message Board Machiavellis got their way. Not sure if I should be impressed or disgusted. In some ways, this is emblematic of how fricked up college football has gotten.

Hmmmmm

Putting aside all the he said,he said about who saw and reported/didn't report what, Sandusky was molesting young boys, CHILDREN, in Penn St's showers.

You say college football has gotten fricked up. Really?
Is it more fricked up with or without Sandusky?

Do you really believe that only one person, McQueary, ever saw anything out of the ordinary?

It was an MOU, not a contract.

"But if Schiano and Tennessee can’t work out an agreement and if Schiano wants to explore a potential legal case, he and his attorneys would likely focus on a claim for breach of contract. He would argue that his MOU became legally binding once signed by both sides. He would demand liquidated damages as stipulated in the MOU. The damages could be considerable—many millions of dollars, perhaps—depending on the language in the MOU. Schiano would argue his firing is without cause since university officials, sensitive to fan reaction, appear to have gotten cold feet at the altar. As discussed above, he would note that his circumstances do not warrant a “for cause” firing."

"Schiano could consider other claims in hopes of obtaining higher value damages. For instance, he could argue that the university has unlawfully interfered with his potential contractual relations with other schools for head coaching positions. To that end, Schiano could insist that by backing out at the last second and reportedly for reasons related to Schiano’s possible ties to the Penn State scandal, the university has irreparably damaged Schiano’s brand and reputation. He could maintain that Tennessee has implicitly endorsed McQueary’s accusation against Schiano even though Schiano categorically rejects it."
