Reading the OU forum, he’s pissed at Kelly and told the players, “we don’t need him”.

Might just be pitching for the HC job. A lot of them seem to want him. Not sure he’s ready for that just yet.

Reading the OU forum,
you read the OU forum and believe they have insider knowledge of the ND program? Kelly’s first call was offering Freeman to be the highest paid DC in the country. Doubt there’s any love lost there.

For fricks sake what? You don’t have the defensive depth to be a NC contender next year. You have to rebuild and coach up. What’s the point of getting a DC that’s out for one year?
Even though your point lacks any validity, because you are basing the hire on the assumption they might leave- I have news for you: they will, one day- I'll answer that one.

Because having a great coordinator for one year can reap wonderful rewards- there was this team with a retiring OC and basically a co-OC in 2019 that lasted for one year who did really great things.

When that happens, it's not about the departure, or the hire- it's about the replacement. Do we not take Brady to team up with Burrow because he might leave? Was hiring him the problem? No. Replacing him was the problem.

How is a worse coach and recruiter going to help us do that.

Look at the competitive defense we were able to play with half a roster last year. We have talent all over the place. Yes we need more depth and more talent to come in but with the transfer portal and early signing day, it is not going to take long to be able to restock the roster.

If we’re smart we’ll attack the portal similar to what Mel Tucker did this year that got them from a non bowl record to being in contention for that conference at MSU.

Hire the best coaches possible and when they leave replace them with the best coaches possible. It’s as simple as that. If you try to argue that logic you’ve already lost your mind

Lacks validity? Yea bro no offense that’s the issue, you had a scheme that worked because you had 4 offensive 1st rounders and they were still chasing that production and scheme once Brady left. Slinger already was running a similar style imo prior to Brady coming, Brady put the final touches.

You want consistency and growth. You don’t hire someone that bails in a year. Doesn’t look great recruiting wise as well.

Forget Freeman. He will stay up north. Likely get the ND HC spot.

Even ignoring the people correctly saying 1 year of elite coaching is better than 0 years of elite coaching, this point is overblown. Elite coordinators don't get good job offers very often. Kirby Smart was a top tier DC for 8 years with Saban. He was less than a month away from being South Carolina's head coach because the big boy jobs weren't ringing. If Freeman doesn't take a headcoaching job this cycle, it's pretty safe to say wherever he lands has him for a few years.
