If they can get a face to face with Saban that is huge. They probably want his input.

Literally the only way this ever happens is if they offer him $25+ mil a year for 4-5 years. He gets a quick $100 million and retires. You hate is he’s looking for a money grab more than the $11+ mil a year he’s already getting before endorsements. He just bought a house on Jupiter Island where Tiger, Phil and many other pro golfers are relocating so I doubt money is an issue and he knows coaching at A&M and making them winners is something even can’t do.

Realistically if Saban we're actually considering another challenge before retirement how much money could he get from A&M?

$20 Million a year? $25 Million?

I mean he makes almost $12M now. Belichick leads the NFL at $20M.

Saban could reset the bar on college salaries at $20m but only from these desperate Aggies, and the pull of Saban would have them jizzing in their pants for a 12th man rendezvous and they would quickly forget the screw up with Jimbo and $77m buyout ($9.6m year)... ouch ... but they would quickly remember when they continue writing checks for TWO COACHES (almost $30m per year) what is the equivalent of almost 11 coaching salaries at Tulane. Yes, paying for almost 11 Willie Fritz's current salary ($2.79m x 11 = $30.69m). How absurd!

Saban can ask for $20m but they might get gun shy as he is 72 years old and should retire around 75. So, if he gets $20m, he would do a 5 year deal for $100m then retire. Since its only 5 years and its Nick Saban, and his last contract, its fully guaranteed. They would have some pick of a head coach in waiting for when he retires but that is for later. OR, if $20m is too high for 2023, they juke him down to $15-17m per year for 5 years and that is the new top salary in college football. He takes it for his last contract, for the money, for the challenge as he did enough at Bama with 6 Natty's.

Let's take Fritz (63 years old) as the cheaper candidate because I saw it on another thread. If A&M wants a solid coach for cheap to offset the huge payout to Jimbo, then you pay Fritz $6m per year, which is 2 x his current salary of $2.79 plus a bit extra to round it off to $6m per year. You do a 5 year deal all guaranteed because you will give the guy min. of 3 years to do his thing, but probably 4 years. If he is no good, make a change and you only owe him a $6m buyout, which would be the last year on the contract. Huge difference $6m to $77m. Or, you tell him 3 years guaranteed, take it or leave it. He takes it as that is almost $10m more than he would make at Tulane for 3 years. And if it does not work, buyout is $0.

What I would do is go for the best up and coming coach, pay him 2-5 times what he is making, then put a clause, if he is still employed going to the 4th year, his salary goes up by one million each year until it maxes out at $10m.

Take Troy Univ. coach Jon Sumrall for example. Hired as head coach in 2021, won the Sun Belt Conf. in 2022 with a 12-2 record. Pay that man! They gave him a raise, but not sure how much. Lets say 50% raise to $1.25m

I would have at least 10 candidates interviewed. 2-3 high profile guys like Urban Meyer, Matt Rhule and Mike Norvell. Then, I would have some young up and coming coaches like Jon Sumrall above. Let's say a young gun kills the interview and the 2nd interview, and I want my program being led by this 41 year old whipper snapper.

Current deal- Say $1.25m

Offer at aTm- $5m per year (4 times his previous salary)
5 year deal with 3 years guaranteed
If employed still going into year 4- contract is extended as follows:

$6m per year (5 year deal) and increases by $1m each year, to max $10m per year. A true performance contract. You do well, we will pay you for that.
