it's insane that they'd let anyone with 20M in debt buy a home.

I think a lot of this depends on how much longer Saban wants to coach. The hardest thing in sports is maintaining success and it wears coaches out. Much more fun and rewarding to rebuild a team.

So if saban thinks he's got 4 or more years left he would go to Tx. If he's nearing the end anyway, he stays put. He eluded to this earlier when he said he was too old to start over.

He's trolling both Auburn & Texas, Auburn in the BCSNCG and recruits all over are hearing these buzz words, Bama, 10 million, Texas, (is desperate to hire the greatest football coach ever) planes, oil, Longhorn network, 1%, tug of war, etc etc

Saban is making himself to look like King Midas and/or a demi-god to 17 & 18 year old recruits while taking away exposure from Auburns lucky title trip......

shite I don't. I wish my coach had won 3 national titles and countless recruiting titles all while being constantly pursued by others and making my program the envy of college football. I wish someone would feel bad for my team like that.

Isnt the hardest part of leaving any job is taking that first step?

Now that the first step appears to have been taken ... he is considering offers, it seems to me to be strictly a business decision. He's already burned some bridges at bama by even entertaining this and causing such a ruckus.

we've already established he's a whore, now we're just negotiating the price. we'll see if TX pockets are as deep as everyone says.

Everyone is giddy. So much enthusiasm with renewed success after a hiatus.

Happened with Meyer at Florida, Carroll at USC, Saban at Bama...

And then after you win and win...suddenly the fanbase goes in year 5-7..."what the hell? We lost a game!"

He is deciding until he decides.

I think he has been deciding for about 3 months.
He was not going to decide during the season. Now that the season is over and Brown is gone, UT is going to hire someone and soon. They have a new AD , so the politicking should be at a minium. The question is - does this new AD have enough sproke to close the deal with Saban. Big money always increases the stroke factor.

The interesting thing here is that if Texas hires anyone other than Saban it will look like a failure

They're going to reach deep into the pockets on this one

No way Texas let's Alabama outbid them. If it's a money issue, Texas will take it. The embarrassment of being outbid by Alabama will be just too much for a Horn, so it can't be allowed to happen.

Try 2 years. Sexton went to them 2 years ago and said, "What if you had a HC vacancy, and what if Nick Saban would consider it? How much money would you be willing to offer? BTW, I'm pretty sure Nick would agree to 10 years, $100 million, if that is a number you're comfortable with."

Just like in late 1999 - the LSU powers that be contacted one James E. Sexton (the same) about possible interest by one of his other whor.. I mean clients, Tommy Tubberville - who had just finished 1 season as the Auburn HC, just 1 year removed from unceremoniously dumping Ole Miss after claiming he would leave in a pine box.

Anyway, "Jimmy" Sexton, replied, as only he could, "No, Tommy's not interested - but Nick Saban is."

THAT'S how it works. That's how it has worked, and that's how it will work in the foreseeable future. This will drive the haves and have-nots in CFB further apart, though. Not just everybody can pay $10 million a year for a football coach (and that will drive more and more assistant coaches into the 7 figure category - it is inevitable).

There's an apartment complex in Houston (Watermarke Apartments) that's under water. Your pal Nick Saban is 49.5% owner of AND he is PERSONAL guarantor on the note. He currently pays interest only so the note won't default. If the note defaults that's a $25MM judgement against him.

A Texas Based bankruptcy firm (Weston Legal) had a very in-depth article up about it until 3 days ago and - BOOM - it's magically disappeared (although a Google Cached version is here: LINK to the cached article.).

Anyway, if he gets out from under that loan that's an additional seven figures a year that goes back in his pocket from not having to pay the interest AND he gets out from under the impending crush of a $25MM debt.

This is all public record, courtesy of the Texas Secretary of State (search for Beltway 8 Associates LP) and the Harris County (TX) clerk of court and its one of the most poorly kept secrets in the Baton Rouge Real Estate business community.

Now the apartment debt is bad enough, but because of Perkins Rowe, Tommy Spinosa had to file Chapter 11 to protect his creditors from seizing his assets, which leaves Nick Squarely in the crosshairs of that $25MM.

Again, this is all a matter of public record (Bankruptcy filings and mortgages always are public records) should you choose to look it up yourself.

Putting PGs on a note like that is almost ignorant. Whoever advised him to sign on the dotted line should've been fired a looooooong time ago.

This is reasonable. I think most Alabama fans take this position at this point, not addressing the inevitable nuclear melt if he gone.

Using this to squeeze every dollar out of Alabama!

You say this like there's something wrong with it.

Do you understand how business works in this country?

Saban has an agent, Jimmy Sexton. Sexton works on a percentage of his clients' contracts. The more money Sexton gets for his clients, the more money Sexton makes. That's called "incentive" to work hard. 'Hard work' for Jimmy Sexton is negotiating the best compensation packages for his clients.

Just more rumors. Apparently, Saban had gotten involved with LSU and Bama boosters with investments that have apparently gone south. Like $10M south.
