I searched and I’m pretty shocked this hasn’t been posted here. Give it a listen if the whole “BK’s coordinators didn’t come with him” narrative is scaring you.
Rees talks about what happened, how quickly things escalated and says that he doesn’t blame BK. The media is making BK out to be a bastard who left ND at the altar but Rees says that he feels like Kelly handled it as well as he could as the deal really wasn’t done until the very last second while they were recruiting together in California… by the time BK could address the team, it was already leaked. There is a lot of respect for Kelly.
Rees REALLY wanted the LSU job. He says multiple times how he was set on it before staying at ND because they gave him more cash and more importantly full power over the offense. BK is an offensive coach so although Rees was the coordinator, he says on the record that Kelly would be involved and interfere with Rees’ offense on occasion and as a competitor, he wants total control of his side of the ball.
TLDR - Rees stayed at ND because he is in complete control of HIS offense. Freeman stayed because he is now the head coach of Notre Dame. This isn’t nearly as complicated as people want it to be and Kelly is well liked by his assistants.
Great interview, seems like a good dude

Someone posted it when it first came out. It’s a pretty simple explanation and anyone looking at it objectively can see why the ND staff where they are. BK was very close with several of those guys. But they had the option to stay at a place they like and not move their families to a new part of the country and I don’t blame them.

Lol. The fact that it’s only been posted twice is still nice compared to most retread threads.

Exactly. Freeman staying seemed to be the key to maintaining the staff. If a new head coach enters the building with no assurances that assistants are being retained, many assistants likely follow Kelly.

I heard part of an interview Marcus Freemen did with Jim Rome last week and Freeman said he was coming with Kelly to BR until ND decided to make him head coach.
